My favorite thing was to walk into churches with no idea what I would find inside, This was one of the churches that inspires awe at magnificent interior. I also loved hearing the bells chime throughout the day

A great example of Romanesque architecture. Santa Maria titular minor basilica in the Trastevere district of Rome, and one of the oldest churches of Rome.

A must see while you walk the cobbled, narrow streets of Trastevere. One of the oldest churches in Rome, it is a minor basilica with major beauty of paintings and mosaics.

This is a beautiful, very old church right in the middle of Trastevere, at a lovely and very lively piazza in the evenings. The church has amazing 12th-century mosaics, a beautiful chapel with a gorgeous fresco and boasts ancient columns inside, some of which were...More

This was the 1st church we visited when in Rome, after seeing many churches this had to be my personal favourite. While not as big as many others it has a presence that many others didn't. One not to be missed.

This superb basilica is well worth a visit for its very fine mosaics and for a sense of peace there. The piazza in front of it is delightful too. Not to be missed!

Unfortunately, at the time we visited this church, a service was being conducted and so we could not explore the church thoroughly. It is one of the oldest and most famous in Trastevere.

The most peaceful church in Rome. At least I found it like that. I was really impressed by the architecture and the decorations around it. A must see!

Santa Maria in Trastevere is absolutely gorgeous, and tucked away from all the hustle and bustle that is Rome. This review is more about the small town of Trastevere itself, though. On our last day in Rome, we had no plans but wanted to take...More

We accidentally came across this church, it's down a little side street but it's so worth the visit! The beauty of this little church is something else and really gave us an insight into the extravagance of Rome's churches - we visited this on our...More

Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded
postcard, a little worn around the edges but still
charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering
streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and
overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible
mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of
entertainment - a rotating set of street performers
entertains almost every night, and unforgettable

I would like to attend Easter Vigil 2017 here. What time will it be held? Will it be in English? Should we arrive plenty early given that it is Holy Week?
