A bit away from most of the main tourist spots but worth the walk. Some pleasant restaurants nearby and the atmosphere was more authentic than in many of the more touristy places.

Sadly this front of the church is currently covered in scaffolding and plastic protection as doing repairs, so poor for photos,

Beautiful, especially the narthex, and the mosaics are excellent. Unfortunately, the exterior was covered in scaffolding.

This basilica more than made up for an otherwise underwhelming visit to Trastavere. It is really stunning and peaceful and well worth a visit.

We came across this church while walking through Trastevere. It is very beautiful inside & worth a visit while in the area. There are so many beautiful churches in Rome, so I don't know if this would be worth going out of my way to...More

Walking the streets of this wonderful area we stumbled on this church, founded by St Callixtus in 221 AD. It was a beautiful and peaceful church to visit

Step inside an look at the marvelous mosaics behind the alter. Sit down and meditate a bit. A quiet place in the evening.

In the heart of old Trastevere - I don't understand, however, why so many charming edifices have to be covered in graffiti. This area also seems very popular with tourists

Trastevere is not an easy neighborhood to find your way but it is worth the effort to see this church. For Christians it has special meaning as it was the first church for Christians in Rome. The gold leaf work is stunning and the art...More

Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded
postcard, a little worn around the edges but still
charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering
streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and
overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible
mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of
entertainment - a rotating set of street performers
entertains almost every night, and unforgettable
