This was one of the favorite churches I visited while in Rome. Located in the Trastevere neighborhood. Beautiful inside!

We walked in this church to experience it's beauty and much to our chagrin, most of the church was very dark. We were just about to walk out when the lights came on over the altar, exposing it's beauty. As we walked up closer to...More

This beautiful church is located in the piazza of the same name in Trastevere. Said to be the oldest church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Rome, the exterior facade is lined with glittering mosaics. The interior is equally beautiful with gilded wooden ceiling and...More

A nice church always full of people from everywhere. You can see the great mosaic inside and the Romanesque bell tower. In Trastevere area it's easy to have a good ice cream, a pizza or try roman cook in lovely narrow pedestrian streets.. don't miss...More

Every church in Rome is beautiful, all of them in different way, this church was touching, the whole area is unique and the neighborhood it is in is also unique. The church had the wonderful art work we have come to expect.

I felt the presence from the first christians being outside the church entrance. The stone tablets in the walls talked to me through the millenia. A story of love and hope.

Travestere was how I had imagined Rome – and perhaps, as my husband noted, the way the city would have been in the 1920s. People sat on the marble steps around the fountain, pleasant but aesthetically unremarkable. A street artist produced gaudy paintings, abstract or...More

Santa Maria in Trastevere, on the other side of the Tiber River, is truly a hidden pearl among the 900 churches in Rome. It is one of the oldest churches in Rome and is the first Marian church in Rome. It is a little hard...More

This is not a church. This is a magnificent Church. In October, at 12 am, with the sun through the yellow windows you can understand a little bit more what people can do with the faith! Something divine!! Andateci verso le 12, col sole. Questa...More

Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded
postcard, a little worn around the edges but still
charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering
streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and
overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible
mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of
entertainment - a rotating set of street performers
entertains almost every night, and unforgettable
