Probably because I had already visited several churches, this one was not so interesting as I expected it to be... The decorations, frescos, mosaics are beautiful but I saw nothing so special... the artists on the square in front of the church were much more interesting. Go there in the late afternoon/early evening and you will watch very interesting performances... More

This church is amazing with wonderful ceilings and tiled floors. A nice place to take a few minutes of solitude and appreciate the wonderful artwork.

We stayed close to this location and next time would try to stay even closer. It was centrally located, close to transportation, food and shopping. Loved the music/entertainment in the square in the evenings. Very beautiful with all the sparkely lights at night.

One of the most beautiful churches in Rome, without the crowds that you often find elsewhere. This one exudes the calm that I want. There is often good street music just outside in the piazza.

Breathtaking church. Amazing artwork and attention to detail. You can't help but be impressed, even if you're not religious.

Saying this church is beautiful is a understatement. The only Mass we were able to attend while in Italy that offered in English and in a lovely chapel off to the side. Of course all the churches are in and of themselves art museums and this one is no exception. Just take your time and try to absorb as much... More

Spent a good hour here with our children. Spectacular, spiritual and historical. You can get lost in all of the frescoes.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
