The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighbourhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

Recently re-opened after extensive renovation, this is a beautiful shopping arcade just across from Piazza Colonna. It has lovely Art Nouveau stained glass ceilings and is well worth a look if you are in the area. It has some clothing shops, a pastry shop, and a large toy store. As of May 2024, there are still some restaurants that have not opened yet but are expected to open soon.

Lovely art-deco gallery, between Campo de Fiori and Piazza Navona.
The floors are slippery, so be careful walking. It was very crowded on a mid-week April afternoon, but it's right along the tourist itinerary recommended by Rick Steves.
I even got to see a Lamborghini police car :)

This is a indoor shopping arcade at Piazza Colonna. It was originally build in the 1920s by architect Giorgio Calza Bini and displays nice architectural features, columns and archways on both sides as well as a very nice patterned glass ceiling which provides quite a bit of natural light into the arcade.

The property has around 20 shops and was named in 2003 after actor Aberto Sordi who passed away earlier in the year. At the time we passed through recently, the Alberto Sordi Gallery seemed to be under restorations. All shops are covered over and it seems some general works are nearing completion. Signs indicate they will reopen soon. You can still walk through the Gallery and enjoy the building architecture even if the shops are not yet ready.

We were there on August 3, 2023. The gallery was not open for business. We entered the courtyard unimpeded. It was under construction/repair. We exited on the west side but did not see any workers.

Designed and built in the 1920s, Galleria Alberto Sordi is described as an elegant shopping centre but it’s a little sad at the moment.
Very few shops seemed to be open and it was rather dark and gloomy inside. Nothing caught our eye and nothing made us stop and linger. You’d be very disappointed if you headed here for shopping.
The Galleria is noted for its beautiful Art Nouveau decor with mosaic floor, wooden panelling and high stained glass ceilings. This was interesting but only warranted a quick look as we walked through.
Of more interest was the facade, which has imposing rows of columns that give it a grand palazzo look.
If you exit onto the Via Del Corso, you will find yourself opposite the Piazza Colonna and the 2000 year old, 40 metre tall victory column of Marcus Aurelius. This is worth crossing the busy road and having a closer look at.

The waitress was unfriendly, the dish was dirty. We do not recommend to spend any money here…
You need to call for the waitress a few times because otherwise they will not come to you.

I just really liked looking at this building and it’s design elements. I agree there aren’t many shops open, but if you are in the neighborhood it’s a really cool space to walk through. The mosaic floor and overhead glass, the different layers and levels feel and look elegant. A really cool art nouveau building and space.

Terrible waste of time and effort. Only one shop seemed to be open. Everything boarded up - maybe because of Covid? Beautiful, but not worth the visit right now.

A rainy Friday in Rome and walking through the area entered the attractive, well-lit building expecting a variety of stores. Instead, we found a bookstore, a small espresso vendor with pastry and such, and a line of people waiting to use the WC. It has potential, but at the moment it appears to be a lovely hall with advertisements and empty shops. It is sad.
