I had passed this many times but really didn't realize what it was. It is definitely worth a visit even if you don't know much about Shelley or Keats. It really gives you a feeling of what Rome was like in the early 1800s.

If you have any interest in Romantic English literature & poetry then this is definitely worth an hour of your time.
Next door to the Spanish steps this small museum in what was John Keats final home contains a short video on his life, a library of books including first editions and letters and a recreation of his bedroom.
A great insight into the time and we throughly enjoyed it. The museum staff were very helpful and welcoming. There is a balcony at the back that you can sit out overlooking the Spanish steps.
Check opening times as they do vary. They currently close 1-2pm for lunch.
Accessibility: there are several flights of stairs as the museum is on the first & second floors. I didn’t notice a lift. There is a toilet.

A really surprising and idiosyncratic find in the middle of Rome. Full of letters, papers and paintings referring to the history of the time and the lives of these poets. The little terrace overlooking the Spanish steps is very charming as is the cute little shop.

In all the surrounding noise, this place is a haven of peace and tranquillity. There's nothing which actually belonged to Keats, as all his belongings had to be burnt due to him dying in that house of TB. The floors, ceiling and fireplace are original. What you will find, however, are many first editions of works by not only Keats but also Shelley and Byron, as well as Mary Shelley's writing desk and lots of manuscripts and letters which are so fascinating to peruse.
I also decided to treat myself to afternoon tea on the little terrace, provided by Babington's Tea Room. What can I say? Tea and scones, overlooking the Spanish Steps, Piazza di Spagna and Trinità dei Monti. Does it get any better?

A corner of British culture in the heart of Rome. The house museum is delightful, the views of Trinity of the Mountains and the Spanish Steps spectacular. I attended an event and I initially feared that I would feel a little uncomfortable, not having in-depth knowledge of English Romantic poets. Instead I was warmly welcomed by the very kind moderator and all the staff and I learned a lot of interesting facts and information about it. As soon as my English grandchildren come to visit me in Rome I would like to take them to visit this place of particular charm!

This is a little hidden gem. My mother told me about it, so I knew to look out for it. There is a lot of information, a nice little video and a reconstruction of Keats' bedroom. This is one for people who are interested in literature and writers.

A museum that has always been on my list to visit! Its in a very good location literally alongside the Spanish steps. It was a bit smaller than I imagined but still full of Interesting artefacts and curios from the lives of Keats, Shelley and co.
I was a bit disappointed that the video of Byron wasn't working but there was still lots of information on him available. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, id love to return if there was an option for a guided tour to learn more.

Wonderful museum. This is where Keats lived out his final months.Nice collection of Keats, Shelley and Mary Wolstencraft items. Staff was friendly. Air conditioned and quiet. A peaceful break from the maddening crowd of tourists outside. If you have any interest in literature do not pass this place up.

Fascinating place to go back in time, providing a peaceful, tranquil place enabling you to share the same views that Keats and Shelley had during their time in Rome. The house is packed full of Romantic Poets archives. A must see during your time in Rome. Tip: the house closes at 1pm for lunch so make sure you start your visit no later than 12 noon.

There's a wondrous focus and simplicity to what this museum does which makes it a must see: It's a historic house, restored with sensitivity to create real atmosphere but not slavish obsession, a treasure trove or documents and artifacts and a centre for scholarship about these important figures. The Goethe House round the corner run by the German government, though much bigger, is in comparison cold and impersonal and gave you no real insight into the remarkable talents who lived there.
The introductory films are really helpful. The exhibits and the explanatory info are truly fascinating. I spent well over an hour here, because of how absorbing the story was. The gift shop has some brilliantly chosen things to buy. One of the real gems of a visit to Rome.
