About
Domitian of Rome (51-96AD,) who had a distrustful nature and lived in constant fear of conspiracies, built a palace whose pillars are made of white reflective marble so that he could see what was going on behind him at all times.

This large Domus was the first palace built on the hill of Palatino, started from Domitian in 92 and continued by Nerone .
This part of the palace was for public use , it was connected with Domus Augustana where the Emperor lived.

I entered this amazing place with no map, unaware even whose house or palace I was in, and was immediately swept into a deep and resonating historical experience. Although it was spectacular for me stumbling upon the hippodrome, the peltate courtyard, the rooms with roofs, etc., unawares, I do recommend a map be taken--I missed the octagonal garden feature, for example, and wished I hadn't. Judicious research has yet to reveal the nature of the bizzarre, very "modern art" looking marble mosaic in the second courtyard, but do not miss it--I've never seen anything like it. Aparrently the parts I managed not to see are even more amazing. K. C. Netherlands

The Flavian Palace (Domus Flavia) is an ancient palace constructed in the 1st Century AD atop Palatine Hill. It was the official residence of all emperors. It is divided into three sections: Domus Flavia, Domus Augustana and the Stadium. The palace grounds are immense; they include gardens, the stadium, guesthouses and the pools. There is also a museum on the grounds, although it does cost to enter.

I found this place on the TripAdvisor. It was really nice to see it. It is fascinating that ruins 4.5 m bellow the Piazza are so well preserved since the newer buildings are above them (it might be interesting to know what can be found in the basement of other buildings around). I like the presentation of sport history and how the magnificent building was built so around 30000 people could enjoy the games!

Domus Flavia (Flavian Palace) is one of the attractions you can see upon Palatine Hill. Built in 92 AD for Emperor Titus Flavius (Domitian). This was part of the residential complex of palaces, which included adjacent Domus Augustana, located at this location above the Roman Forum.

Today, like most of the ruins in the area, there are only fragmented remains of the ancient Palace to experience. However, you can walk around wall structures providing traces of various rooms, hallways and parts of the former palace. An oval shaped fountain ruin can be seen here as well as an octagonal shaped fountain and courtyard, just near the entrance to the Palatine Museum.

Note that it is best to have a guidebook with you so you can understand what you are seeing upon Palatine Hill. At times, it can be difficult to know which ancient building structure or ruins you are walking around and seeing.

From here you see the balcony made famous by "Il Duce Mussolini" during WWII. A great place to catch bus 64 to the Vatican for only €1.50.

This huge building, which was for public use, was the first to be built on the Palatine Hill and dates back to 92 AD.

The Palace of Domitian (Domus Flavia) is an amazing place. We walked into this area without at first realising what exactly it was. Today only a few remnants are left of the glory that was, but even so you do get glimpses of this palace would have looked like in its heyday.

Don’t miss this spectacular residential complex from the 1th century, known as Domus Flavia (or Flavian Palace). It was designed for the Emperor Domitian and contained several large rooms and suites. This part od the palace was an official residence, while Domus Augustana was a luxurious private residence.
