Julius Caesar's Tomb - sounds like a place worth visiting, right? In fact, it turns out to be a very simple, unremarkable place. In any other setting, you might be appalled, but here, in the Roman Forum, you can miss a lot of things by being overwhelmed by the history that surrounds you and pours out from everywhere.

Caesar has no grave, he was cremated, and the altar was later included in the Temple of Caesar. The alter is all that remains of the temple, and it is still visible on the Forum. Modern travelers still leave messages and flowers on the site of Caesar's cremation, also called the The altar of Divus Julius. This is worth seeing during a tour of the Forum, but it is not well marked so be sure to look for it.

Kinda sad that there isn't much here. It's part of the Forum so not like you need a special ticket or anything. Forum as a whole isn't really anything spectacular, they really don't take care of this visitor's attraction at all.....like the rest of Rome it is dirty and lacks any pride!

Confusing, poorly indicated on maps and no interpretive signage. So which of the several photos of different places is actually "Ceasers Grave"?
The Forum and Palantine areas are an international shame. No doubt there are good people working on restortion, but the historical value of these sites surely demands better management and information to add value to what they represent to the whole world! A guided tour with a reputable guide would be preferable to the audio tours and map guide (???) provided at the entrance. Paths are often difficult and unstable under foot, with little or no attempt to guide or contain pedestrian traffic. You know you want to see it, but it's very dissappointing.

I was in Rome last year & made my expected tour of the Forum. Everything was beautiful & impressive until I saw the gravesite of Julius Caesar. With all of the archeological restoration that has been done in Rome, I was shocked & appalled in the condition Caesar's grave was in. Hidden behind a wall, a very small sign indicating whose gravesite it was.

The Italian government should be ashamed in ignoring and allowing Caesar's to fall into complete disarray. But that's politics in a foreign country. Here in the U.S. our history is no where as extensive as Italy, but yet we honor all of our great leaders. Especially our Founding Fathers. Italy should remember that Caesar was one of their Founding Fathers & respect & honor should be made. And complete restoration of Julius Caesar's gravesite. It is a complete disgrace ignoring such a great leader.

Considering the huge importance of Caesars grave we thought it would have more attention and signposting. Make sure you do a bit of research or get a guide when you go to the Roman Forum so that you don't miss gems like this.

Located within the Roman Forum is the Temple of the Divine Julius, built by Caesar's adopted son, Augustus, to mark the spot where Caesar's body was cremated (Caesar was assassinated at the Theater of Pompey, at Largo Argentina, as the Senate House (Curia) in the Roman Forum was under renovation at the time). The temple also commemorates that Augustus declared Caesar to be a god, a practice adopted by subsequent emperors. There is little left of this temple, but what is always incredible to me is that two thousand years later, people still leave flowers on Caesar's grave.

Not to be confused with the area where Caesar was assassinated (at what today is called Largo Argentina, where the Senate was meeting temporarily because the Curia Julia in the Roman Forum was under renovation), the Temple of the Divine Julius is where he was cremated, and it lies inside the Roman Forum. There's a small mound which was the altar, a few bits of the walls, and not much more, covered by a modern roof. Amazingly, people still leave flowers there.

we visited here when ioman forum and at the end of our visit when search for exit,we saw that some people went behind a wall and so we went, but found just a top of clay and didnt know unfortunately anything about it at that time.of course there was a plaque , i think, at this spot, but we thought it is a temple and not definitely understood anything about cesare's seemingly grave(not exactly grave of course). happy to visit it at least, but wish to knew more at that time though. informative plaques are not very much in roman forum unfortunately.but worth visiting.

Actually the altar that is in the Forum was built by Augustus to honor Caesar. The actual site is on the location where Caesar was cremated -there is no grave. It is located pretty much in the center of the Forum, but you have to be checking for it as it's somewhat nondescript. If you look around the front wall, you can see where people occasionally leave flowers.
