Via dei Condotti is located in a busy and fashionable street of Rome at the foot of the Spanish Steps.
Today, it is the street which contains many of the Rome-based Italian fashion retailers and one of the most expensive streets in Europe.
You will find brands such as Dior, Gucci, Valentino, Hermès, Armani, Jimmy Choo, Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Céline, Van Cleef & Arpels, Dolce & Gabbana, Max Mara, Alberta Ferretti, Trussardi, Buccellati, Bulgari, Damiani, Tod's, Zegna, Cartier, Montblanc, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton have stores on Via Condotti.
Its location being at the foot of the Spanish steps, has resulted in large numbers of tourists visiting this area.

The title of this review is: still the luxury brands shopping street. The word in this sentence to watch is 'still'. Because I was missing some expensive brands that were there some years ago and were missing. Is it possible that there is some wear and tear on the reputation of Via Condotti, or is this review just a snap shot and is Via Condotti still going strong. However, I spotted some expensive brands all the same so a four point rating and a recommendation to walk Via Condotti is in order.

Now you have to appreciate that we were in Rome in December. So having walked down the Spanish Steps, this beautiful shopping extravaganza full of twinkling lights was standing before us, inviting us to spend our money. And I'm not joking when I say that it was particularly inviting. If you love shopping, even window shopping, this is the place for you. It's full of the high end stores of Chanel, Jimmy Choo & Tiffany's & it's really rather wonderful.

Long street with lots of high end shops such as Chanel, Jimmy Choo, etc. Although surprisingly untidy street with litter and lots of broken pavements. Leads to the Spanish Steps and Spanish Piazza

Rome's premier shopping street (full of high end jewelry and fashion stores) doesn't contain any shops or brands you can't otherwise find in almost any major, upscale mall in North America. Not at all worth walking down.

Just to walk, I am not interested in the most famous brands ;-) instead of some. You should stop for coffee in the oldest Coffee house Greco, where famous artists sit 250 years back, the prices are normal (at bar presso for 1,70€) and you should support them. I just read that they pay monthly rent 18000€ and the owner wants to increase that for astronomical 120.000€!! I would say even 18.000€ is too much. :-/

This along with Via Del Corso is where you shop whilst on holidays in Rome. We loved looking at all the latest fashions as it gives us a glimpse of what will be coming in fashion trends. Staff in most stores we entered were helpful.

This is Rome's premier shopping street, with all the big name designers and jewelers. A great street for window shopping, with lots of people strolling.

Visitors to Rome who are seeking luxury shops like Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes, Tod’s, Max Mara, Ferragmo, and more need only find their way to the Via Condotti. This street is home to some of fashions’ brightest stars and the shops are good sized so you’ll find your dream items. I know I did.
The street itself is narrow but cars do traverse it, so be careful walking and gawking. Sidewalks aren’t terribly wide and strollers and/or wheelchairs might have trouble navigating the uneven pavement and throngs of people. Because the start of the street is off the piazza where the famous Spanish steps are located, it’s heavily trafficked by tourists. But it’s oh so worth it to visit.

Is it true that Louis Vuitton products are approx. 30% less expensive than US? We plan to go to Via Condotti Louis Vuitton store in hopes to finding some great products less than US prices. Thanks!

I want to buy a Louis Vuitton bag there; I've read that most designer name stores will have a "VAT" (value added tax) that you can get back at the airport so you signficantly save a lot of money. Is this still true?
Written 11 March 2017
You can still get the VAT refund at the airport.
However at the time of purchase make sure you tell the shop assistant that you will claim the VAT refund as they have to give you the appropriate receipts and possibly check your passport. (I am sure at LV they are very familiar with the refund process and can advise on the steps and documentation required)
At the airport, also tell the airline check in staff that you are planning to claim VAT and whether the items are in your checked luggage or are hand carry.
The airline check in staff can then provide more information about the process and what you need to take with you to the refund office.
Give yourself plenty of time at the airport to go through the various steps required and consult with the airline staff whether you have to take the items with you in case the customs officials want to confirm the items against the receipts.
