Great vatican tour

If you're going to see the Vatican whilst in Rome I really recommend getting a tour with Rome Illuniated. Had a great tour guide who spoke great English. We skipped the hour or two long lines that the average person not in a tour group has to wait to get in. She took us through out the vatican, stopping at... More

After reading some of the reviews we booked the tour of the Vatican Museum with Alexandra, and the Ancient Rome tour with Evan. Both tour guides are knowledgeable, patient, considerate and personable. They gave us a very good overview of the highlights listed in the tour descriptions, and suggested other things to see on our own time after the tour... More

we found this tour from a recommondation on tripadvisor and we weren't really sure what to expect, the tour guide we got was evan, and everything was perfect from the word go. we left a message on the site to say we would like a tour the next day and straight away we got a text to confirm time and... This was our first visit to Rome and Evan and Aleksandra made it come alive for my wife and me. Evan has a scholars knowledge of Roman antiquities and a connoisseurs knowledge of the restaurants and, perhaps most importantly, the gelato emporiums. Our first evening, he took us on a “Roman Holiday” movie tour beginning at the Spanish Steps winding... More

This is the second time I have used Rome Illuminated. They created a tour for me that hit all the right spots. Very knowledgeable guides. All in all a very memorable experience.

Evan at Rome Illuminating was really great! We spent a lot of money getting to Rome and we really felt that the extra money we paid for 2 days of Evan's time was smart money and well spent. It is exhausting to site-see in Rome, so it is very important to have someone lead you to the best things to... More

We had 2 separate private tours, one of Ancient Rome and one of the Vatican. Both were exceptional, the guides were both knowledgable, and were great with our children, ages 10 and 11. We really had a great trip in Rome as the guides enabled our kids to enjoy it as much as we did. I would recommend this any... More

Our trip of the forum and colosseum was was one of our Rome highlights. We were lucky and found that we had John to ourselves and he easily tailored the tour to suit us. I'd definately recommend a tour for the forum as he brought it to life and without him they would have been just ruins. Thanks John.

We went to Rome for a weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday in March 2010 and opted for a private 5 hour tour with Rome Illuminated. It was excellent. Perfect introduction and overview of Rome and Vatican! Strongly recommended and very enjoyable. It was well worth it!

My husband and I spent the first leg of our Italian Honeymoon in Rome with Rome Illuminated. It far exceeded our expectations. We saw famous attractions and sites not in the guide books. Out tour guide was kind, gracious, very informative, and we felt very safe the entire time. We look forward to using Rome Illuminated again when we return... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
