Neighbourhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
How to get there
  • Circo Massimo • 9 min walk

The garden in the pictures definitely looks more taken care of, but in reality, it's all dry and not taken care of at all.

The view is nice for some photos, and a cozy nice church is located nearby and the famous gate where you look through its key hole. That's the only thing that makes it worth the visit. Otherwise, there is nothing really worth it.

Great place to enjoy the view over Rome and the Vatican. My family and I went there during the evening hours and had a picknick.
We had really a pleasent evening and from our point of view Giardino degli Aranci is definitely worth a visit.

Buy some wine, and go there for a sunset or a sunrise. Very romantic, place with a great atmosphere. We went there at evening, there where some tourist, some local people, some artist who played a guitar creating very unique moments. The view is gorgeous you can see Vatican City some Rome landmarks. Beeing there drinking wine, admiring sunset is truly one of the best things you may do in Rome.

We visited the garden at sunset on a Segway Tour. A beautiful calming place. Busker playing a guitar added to the ambience. Tourist and locals relaxing at the close of the day. To highlight the visit we walked a little further up the road to glance through the Knights of Malta secret keyhole. Wow! take the visit, glance through the keyhole and have an experience of a lifetime.

Very nice place. Worth visiting in sunshine. Offers a nice panorama of the city. Amazing chruches and great shop at the closter.

It is a bit off the usual track but not far. A nice small garden but the view of Rome is great. Together with Pincio you get a nice overview of Rome.

My wife and I visited Rome on our honeymoon and came across this exquisite garden scented with the sweet perfume of oranges. The garden is a fantastic place to chill out in the shade under the orange tree canopies and have a siesta in the sunshine! The garden boasts one of the best views of the Roman skyline we came across!

This is a hidden gem in Rome and a must see for tourists for a unique vantage point of Rome.

The Orange Trees Garden as it is today was designed in 1932. This garden gives a wonderful view over the Tiber River and across Rome from the top of the Aventine hill.

If you do not have a car it is a hell to reach Orange garden. You need to climb up to the top of the hill. But, honestly, DO IT!!! For the best sunset.
The garden is full of oranges in the winter time, but you will find it closed after 6 pm (not sure about the exact time, but check it before climbing). Summer closure time is different, so you can easily enjoy the sunset from the terrace.

A great panoramic view of the roman skyline. Very idyllic, close to the Tiber and Circus Maximus. A nice quiet spot away from the crowds.
