We are satisfied that we hired Vatican Guided Tour. Our travel guide Clara was knowledgeable and passionate for art history that was truly6 inspirational and entertaining. Her sense of humour and energy was excellent that made our tour just WOW. The tour was truly engaging for all age groups. We enjoyed so many breathtaking moments in the tour. Glad!

Vatican Guided Tour Is Second To None!

This tour was each and everything we expected. We are very much glad that we have hired Vatican Guided Tour. We were lucky enough to go at a time when the tourist presence was low and got some incredible photos. What really made this tour special was our tour guide. His knowledge was awesome. He was truly passionate about what he was guiding us through which made the tour so much more enjoyable.

Finally a very fun and cultured way to rediscover the most beautiful city in the world. The walk through the monuments was a "Real" discovery!!! She has managed to involve everyone (young and old) in the history of Roman wonders. Highly recommended!!! See you soon, thank you!

Way too Crowed to Be Enjoyable

The tour leader was great and very informative but unfortunately it is way too crowded to be enjoyable. It is a three hour "shuffle" and "bump" parade. The sistine chapel is a joke and there is no way you can stand and take in the chapel ceiling.

However, the Vatican is one of the most visited attractions in Italy, and during high season, the volume of participants visiting the venue can be quite significant, and I'm afraid we do not have control over the crowds, as the venue itself is the one in charge of setting up the maximum capacity. As a tour operator, we set-up a max pax on our tours so that clients can get a more personalized experience. We also offer early morning tours for those who want to beat the crowds: on this tour, our clients see the Sistine Chapel almost empty. Official Vatican Tour

We booked a tour of the Vatican Museum and St Peters on the Vatican website. It was about 36 euro each, which was a lot cheaper than most tours that we looked into. It went for about 21/2 hours. We went through the security check and found the meeting point very easily. The instructions they email to you are very easy to follow. It was lovely not having to join he huge queues of people waiting to buy tickets.
It is very crowded inside, actually worse than I had imagined, which made me all the more grateful to be part of a tour than trying to find my own way around.
At the end of the tour you are free to stay in St Peters for as long as you wish.

Pay attention before booking on Get your guide

Usually 'guided tour ' includes the entrance and commentary, not with get your guide
Vatican guided tour Get your guide, should clearly clarify that an additional fee of 23 EUR (!!) for the Vatican entrance (no receipt given, unless you insistently ask). Basically you pay 35 EUR for a commentary on the Vatican...
Whereas a 2h guided tour organized on the premises (paid directly in the Vatican) is 32 EUR and does include the entrance tickets.
So choose wisely, and visit the official website for clear informations (http://www.museivaticani.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Servizi_Visite.html).

Take the Vatican Faith and Art Guided Tour.

We have been on this tour x3 times now.......... you will never take it all in in one visit....... it inc a 3hr tour of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's , his tomb, with ‘Michael Angelo's Pieta’, which (in my opinion) is literally the most jaw dropping sculptured masterpiece you will ever see.

Book in advance and pay direct via the Vatican website.

Official Vatican Tour

We booked this through the Vatican and I think in total it cost us about €65 for the two of us, ( it was Wed so we 'd been to see The Pope in St Peters at 10-30am WHICH IS FREE BTW) our tour was booked for 1pm, we arrived as advised 20 mins prior! We were still waiting for our tour guide at 1-40pm, EVENTUALLY the tour began BUT we then had another wait as our tour guide was UNSURE when to go into the museum, whilst she was dithering an UNOFFICIAL tour guide BARGED AHEAD!!, it's a looooooong tour, you are rushed by! They only stop at certain areas and don't even think about asking questions! They don't have time to answer them!, don't go to the loo And if you are elderly , or any way infirm ( we are not but others in our group struggled to keep up)we saw some amazing sights but I was really looking forward to seeing that Stairway you know the circular one!, we thought we'll see it later as THE TOUR ENTITLES YOU TO SPEND ALL DAY IN THE MUSEUM!!!!! NO WE NEVER SAW IT!!you have to argue with the security in the Sistine chapel if you want to go back!!!!!....another review warns you about what happens when you enter the Sistine chapel! Yes before you go in they tell you absolutely no photos! Yes they open the door and you are HERDED IN! It's pandemonium in there! Everyone is speaking, and taking photos!!! they need to do something about this! It's a CHURCH! Not a theatre! Cameras and camera phones should be banned!!, the official tour guide who you've paid The Vatican for is told to be quiet by the security who are herding you, you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STAND STILL!! What's more its DANGEROUS! IF there was ever a fire alarm or a security threat there is SERIOUS DANGER OF A Stampede!, I have to say there's too many people allowed in at once! It's VERY BADLY COORDINATED! People push and shove each other! I know that's bad mannered folk but its scary and spoils One of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SIGHTS ON EARTH! , I'd LOVE TO GO BACK WHEN / IF its not busy! We went in October as its considered to be a quiet time! IT'S NOT! There are still 20,000 people passing through EVERY DAY!,the cafe is a MISS its MORE EXPENSIVE AND WORST QUALITY IN ROME the Vatican and St Peters is ver much a cash cow which is saddening as St Peters Basilica , The Vatican and seeing the Pope is one of The most special things people hold dear, I am going to Email the Vatican as they need to make some drastic changes! Not that it will make any difference!.....My advice is still GO! It's got to be seen, it's one of The Main Reasons people flock to Rome! And it is BREATHTAKING!

Tips on vatican museum and St Peters Basilica visits

I didnt book a trip before going and guide books suggested to do the vatican museum first because of the wait. However, we went into St Peters first which is free and the best decision we made. The wait to get through the line for security was about 15 mins in boiling sunshine. You must have covered shoulders, my sons wore long trousers just in case. I had a guide book and downloaded a free audio guide which was fine. The place is overwhelming. We paid 8 euros to go up to the dome which is well worth it. We also climbed further which was v hard work lots of steps and very narrow one way passage to get outside at the top of the dome. Great views. After this we were pretty tired but planned to go to the vatican museum. In the entrance hallway of St Peters they have desks which sell tickets for the vatican with no waiting line at all. Reduced prices for under 25 I think but you need id. Cash only. The tickets cost about 5 euros extra each but give you fast track access and an hour entry time slot. I didnt have cash or id so we decided to walk around anyway. The line for the vatican snaked around the walls in hot sunshine people were waiting 2 hours or more. We gave up. Went back the next day earlier and refreshed, went quickly back into St Peters to get our tickets, went down into the tomb which we hadnt done the day before. The tomb area was quiet and peaceful and well worth a visit, im glad we went back and didnt miss it. We then walked around to the museum past everyone in the 2 -3 hr line. Showed our tickets we had bought 30 mins before at the entrance and we were in. It is busy especially the sistine chapel area but well worth a visit. The groups on guided tours looked frazzled in the heat and not very happy. We very much enjoyed quietly deciding which way to go and what to see. We probably didnt know about everything we walked past but a coffee in the vatican grounds reading my guide book gave me a good idea. I hope this info is useful. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 trips to this area of Rome and I think splitting it in to two made it much more enjoyable. Its a very tiring overwhelmling visit.

Federica D'Orazio is THE BEST!!

I found Federica through the Rick Steves Rome book. I contacted her via e-mail and we exchanged many emails. I sent her an itinerary I found through another travel site and she set up a tour that matched the list of sites for far less money. She is extremely knowledgeable about the Vatican (and several other famous churches/sites) but doesn't come off as a 'know-it-all'. She is EXTREMELY personable and her english is incredible. She is extremely accomodating and very friendly. She was our first guide in Italy and set the bar very high. All 12 of us wished she could have been our guide every day we were there, but she does not do trips outside of Rome.

You will NOT be disappointed!!
