It's the first time we visit a castle that was only used as a prison. Its history is fascinating and the amazing view on the sea and the entire city it's just a plus! The guide told us everything about the castle's history, as well as the prisoners' life inside of it. Very recommended!

I was so pleased to be Handed a leaflet as I strolled in Gaeta today as it advertised that this Castello which has such history was open to the public . I joined the tour and the guide was brill he translated as I’m afraid I only have a little italian . Built in 13th century and used as military prison it housed the infamous SS soldier Herbert Kappler he was responsible for the massacre of 335 Italians in Rome on 24/3/1944 . He was imprisoned here in Gaeta and allegedly smuggled out by his wife in a suitcase. It’s a fascinating place to visit but it’s now used by theFinancial Police so out of bounds . Views are fantastic

Placed in the medieval neighborhood, as witness of the ancient historical events proposes him that have involved for centuries the city of Gaeta. As shown by the form of its towers, first it has been built during the French dominion of the Angiò with the characteristics towers as a form of cone and after by the Spanish Aragona with towers cylindrical.

This hilltop castle is now a military establishment and the warning signs make it clear they dont want you going inside. It forms a formidable top to the old town of Gaeta.

We were dissapointed when we got to the top of the mountain by foot and we couldn't go into the monument. It seems nice from the outside though.

Cannot judge if it is nice or bad to visit as it is closed and under reconstriction. No sign suggests until when.....

Of the two castles, one is closed to the public and the other was turned into a military prison at some point in its long history.

When we got there, we learned we could only enter the castle with a guide, and only after 14:00

The guide, Antonella, was very friendly and knowledgeable

I think people should be aware, it's like touring Alcatraz, not a medieval castle

We visited the former prison castle until 1990 with a very good guide named Vittoria, who illustrates the prison in such a real way that it makes you relive the period. Absolutely worth visiting. Angela and Co

Having heard about the military prison, we wanted to experience it firsthand. The excellent explanation given to us by the guide, Mara, was very comprehensive. He connected the multiple events that took place within the structure very well. Really good.
