It was closed for us too. We saw the mosaic but that was it. Still plenty to see on this tour. Make sure you get a guide. They are very informative and know their stuff

I couldn't wait to see this part when I read the name "The house of tragic poet", I mean wow...this is melancholic! It turned out to be a cute place with a nice angry doggy mosaic, which I liked so much that I could not...More

House of the tragic poet has stunning mosaic tiles floors that really stand out. Definitely one of the more interesting houses to view in Pompeii.

Just very close to the Thermopolium or Terme del Foro, or again in english, Forum Baths, we suddenly stumbled at this old roman house, somehow poetically named, that is, the House of the tragic poet. The name derives from one mosaic scene of one play...More

At the entry of this house you can see the famous mosaic 'Cave Canem', beware of the dog. The house is not accessible and the mosaic is behind glass.

As mentioned by countless others, the "Beware of the Dog" mosaic at the entrance of the home is truly astounding. As much as our lives have "evolved" from the era of Pompeii, this mosaic is truly amazing both in content and how it has survived...More
