    Best views of Naples
The place to go for views of Naples. The castle itself is imposing due to the size of it. Unfortunately you can’t look around the castle more. At the top though you get 360 panoramic views of Naples which were fantastic. Vomero itself was also lovely to visit and can be reached easily by the Metro (recommend getting off at each of the flagged artistic stops on the network). Beware the toilets are right at the top of the castle after approx a 15 minute walk.

The climb is over 700 feet but worth every step!
The castle sits atop a very long flight of stairs and from the port it took us an hour to climb the 700 feet (over 600 steps if going through all the back streets) to the castle entrance. You can of course take a taxi. The walk through the back streets enabled us to see the real Naples, people enjoying chats and drinks on their doorsteps, washing hanging from balconies, everywhere draped in blue bunting following Napoli winning the Italian football championship. It was a fantastic insight to the Spanish Quarter and well worth the long climb. Once in the castle, the views were spectacular and definitely made the climb worth while. It is €6 per adult and takes about an hour to walk around the walls and courtyard or two hours if visiting the art museum within the castle. There is a small cafe and toilets in the courtyard and a lift from the entrance to the courtyard if walking the cobbles to the roof is difficult. Ask at the ticket office for the lift. A very good experience if walking the steps from the port to the castle and ask locals if you need directions to the various steps, they are not sign posted until half way to the top where you join the main road.

    Don't miss
Spectacular views after a bit of a climb up the stairs. The Castel has quite a bit of history that is worth learning and is well maintained in terms of the structure. Impressive walls and views that cannot be equalled.

Must visit the cafe at St Elmo! Amazing drinks!
St Elmo's view is spectacular, after long flight of stairs. We had an amazing time here and you must visit the cafe at the top with panoramic view of Napoli. Waitress Ivana has helped use to make a refreshing alcoholic drink - an icy lemony Granita with limoncello for us! It is custom made with care and love! The people in the cafe are so friendly and really to share their views and cultures here! Highly recommended!

    Nice castle with a view
Enjoyed the castle probably more than the ones at sea level. Bit of climb up the stairs to reach castle but if you take your time it’s fine, only about 5 euros entrance to its worth it. Castle itself is very well maintained and less busier than other castles so all good, but the views are the real winner best photo spot for overlooking Naples.

    Spectacular views
Definitely come up here, you get the best view of the city and port. Just be aware that the ticket office only takes cash and nearest cashpoint is 600m away downhill. If you rock up like us and don't have cash you can buy tickets online and show the reference at the ticket office. Kids go free. Really enjoyed our visit.

    Great views
At the top of Vomero hill you will find Castle Sant’Elmo. There are two locations, Via Toledo and Montesanto where you can ride the funicular to the top of the hill. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Toledo funicular stop and a 5 minute walk from Montesanto. Entry to the castle is 6 euros per person cash only. The views of the city and surrounding area are amazing from here. Unfortunately, due to the wild fires it was very hazy and we could not see the volcano. There is a large clock with blade-like hands that does not keep time but spins alternating in both directions. There also is a restaurant in the castle and some public bathrooms that were not well maintained.

    Amazing view!
Very nice view! Quite a lot of walking, but worth it! Make sure you went to the toilet before you head here though. Most are out of toilet paper and as with almost EVERY other public places, all the toilets do not have seats to sit on.

    Impressed
A really impressive castle and well worth visiting. It is so massive and looks absolutely impregnable. Would be good if they could also show you the old prison or dungeons. Like most things in Naples we couldn't get in to see some of the normally open areas but there was no work going on

    Naples Vista
Visited here on a Friday morning whilst in Naples. We took the funicular railway up from the city centre and there was a little bit of a queue to get tickets although no one checks them! It's an impressive vantage point, arguably the best in Naples to see the city, bay, Mount Vesuvius and beyond. The fortress itself isn't that interesting, there's a few storyboards dotted around explaining some of the history, but the majority of people no doubt visit just to take in the great views. There's a cafe at the top but the toilets were a bit grim. It was only €6 to get in so from that aspect it's good value to spend a couple of hours. If ever you're doing a visit Naples, I would definitely recommend you should add it to your itinery,

During my Italy research, I read the Castel Sant’ Elmo will give you a great view of the Bay of Naples. I pre-purchased tickets online for €5, which turned out to be unnecessary because 1. You still have to wait on the regular line to show them your ticket (but the line was only a few people deep) 2. It was pretty empty for a Saturday at 1.

I have a feeling the castle isn’t as popular because you can get a similar view of the bay for free right next to the castle. Although I would say the view from the castle is better because you can go higher, and there are no roads/trees blocking the view.

There really isn’t much to see inside the grounds so it’s just more for the view itself. We ended up spending about an hour there just walking around and taking pictures. For €5, I think it’s worth it. If I had to pay anything more than that, I would probably just opt for the free view.

Free admission with ArteCard. A lot of really beautiful views. There isn't much information about the castle itself, but it's worth it.

Probably the best attraction in Napoli. The views are amazing from the tops, easy to find and go with the funicular and the walk inside the castle is priceless. You will see the whole city as well as Pompeii and the volcano.

You came here on the last evening of my 2 week adventure in Naples and Campania. I was tired after a full day of sightseeing and took the funicolare up to the Castello. I was instantly re-energised on arrival! The building itself is impressive (although as a visitor you are not permitted entry to the castle itself). To get to the viewing platform on the castle’s roof you walk up the ancient stairs and ramparts allowing sneak peeks of city and the bay of Naples. The panoramic views from the rooftop are breathtaking! Well worth the visit and a fabulous last sunset of my holiday!
