- Michael KSan Jose, California1,144 contributionsSafer than expected but nothing much to seeLike Spaccanapoli, the streets here are narrow and gritty. But unlike Spaccanapoli, the streets are not crowded with tour groups. With emptier streets, there are more motorcycles zooming around. As a tourist, this place is not as bad as one would imagine but then there are not a lot of reasons to explore this area other than the fact that there are plenty of restaurants here at reasonable prices.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2024
- Mark GNottingham, United Kingdom2 contributionsA wonderful experience of authentic Italy. The Spanish quarter was amazing. We felt totally safe and welcome. It is close to everything you would want to visit. It is probably not for everyone, but it is bustling with authentic, local life. It is not pretty but it feels genuinely like you are living along side local people. Full of bars, restaurants and shops. It is noisy, bustling and yes, cars and mopeds really do whizz through narrow streets, but it is all part of the charm. If you want 5 star luxury, maybe go elsewhere. But if you want to wander among back streets and sample Italian life as it is, give it a go. It was wonderful.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 August 2024
- Drive a1 contributionAmazing experience in NapoliRecently been to this place for 3 days. For those who are questioning the safety. It’s very safe, close to Via Toledo, a street full of shops and restaurants. Inside the Spanish Quartieri there are a lot of cafes and small restaurants and very energetic vibes. I definitely recommend this place and Napoli in general is an amazing city, if you like food, arhitecture and very beautiful views with sea and nature, Napoli is the place to see!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2024

If you want to see locals and blended in with the history, you must go here. The Spanish Quarter – the neighbourhood west of Via Toledo, sloping up to San Martino and Vomero – is one of the city’s most densely populated areas. It was named after the Spanish troops who laid out its grid of narrow streets in the 1600s.

Lovely area to wander through, especially if searching for food.
Would recommend not going too late at night if you don’t know where you are going or are alone as some random streets were deserted & dodgy. Completely different vibe during the day / early evening.
Watch out for cars and mopeds everywhere.

How not to visit the Spanish Quarter in Naples....dangerous? Once. now they are safer and still touristy in some parts.
The Maradona mural is the most popular attraction and seeing live what you see on TV has a certain effect, but even more so how this champion is venerated.
It is worth a visit because this neighborhood is a piece of Naples' history.

One day in Naples is enough...
The city is reminiscent of Bangkok in terms of exhaust fumes, noise, pollution, too many people in the streets, alleys and traffic with few rules.
You get the impression that there is a fight for every square meter, and that is stressful...
The people are mostly not very friendly...
One positive thing to note is that the beautiful churches are always open, Santa Chiara for example...

This area is booming with life, there is so much to explore from the shops, to the street sellers, to the art. The Maradona mural is located at the top of Via Emanuele de Deo, the walk up there is at an incline but other than that, I don’t recall any steps or difficulties accessing the area. The people of Naples are extremely welcoming and friendly and the history of the building is just incredible. It holds an amazing environment and I would be happy to return, a week just wasn’t long enough!

As Neapolitans we set out into the neighborhoods to introduce the children to the city, a wonderful experience but Naples definitely needs to be improved, the neighborhoods cannot present themselves
to the tourists. dirty
a minimum of sensitivity on the part of restaurants, pizzerias and other things, put more bins and try to keep it clean, now is your time to earn but it must be respected!!!

Chaotic and not very enjoyable for long. Dirty and sketchy overall but fun for an hour or so. My favorite part was the woman making juice but didn’t find much of interest in these old run down alleys.
