There was little English in this church however it was easy to find but does have set opening hours. There is a huge contrast in the two levels of the church, one floor is very grand and magnificent the other is dusty, stark and unkempt....More

We were confused as at first we understood that only tours can be taken and then in the end allowed to enter downstairs by ourself. The place is spooky and unique and worth the visit.

The tours are only conducted in Italian but as long as one is down in the sepulchre you can go and explore yourself. No photo's are allowed in the building the reason which becomes apparent pretty quickly. It's such a morbid place with open skulls...More

This is our fifth day in Naples, and this is the only place we visited that I wish we had skipped. In order to see the good stuff (i.e., the lower church, with the skulls, etc.), you have to pay for and take the guided...More

Tours only, can't do it yourself. The tours are in Italian only but you are given a sheet with some information if you don't speak Italian. Entry is €4 each and you'll roughly spend 15minutes down there. It's weird and unique and for that reason...More

Very interesting church with a very interesting past. Well worth the hour you will spend in here. We did not have a guide in English but thy do offer a sheet of paper that gives you an idea what was going on.

One of the many churches in Naples you would think. Until you see the skulls on the metal fence and enter the church. It was the centre of a morbid cult in which followers adopted skulls and prayed for their souls. A guided tour (only...More

Standard Italian church like so many, but an odd twist. The sect that worship there have a peculiar practice of "looking after" skulls of the dead, forging a link between this life and the afterlife. Bit like Marmite - you like it or you don't.

Ya gotta see it to believe it...truly fits in with all the fantasy, myth and ghost culture theta surrounds Napoli!

The guided tour was available in English and was well worth the small fee, to see the basement below the church and what's behind the alter. Look for the brass skulls as you walk through old town.
