Maybe it is just me, but I have seen so many caves, and so impressive... It was on my way, but I would not go out of my track for it.

We came across this by accident as we were walking to the natural arch. It’s really just an old cave. Worth 5 minutes but nothing special.

Whilst on the way to the Natural Arch from Capri Town you will automatically come to the Grotto on your way there. It is a massive formation, very impressive although there is nothing in it. According to one knowledgable visitor there was once a slab here depicting Mithra. Stop and gaze and take a few photos and continue towards the Natural Arch:)

Take the time and leave the shopping behind to get a real feel for this island by foot. Absolutely incredible beauty is just about 20 minutes away from the crowds.

My husband & I hired a boat/captain when were last in Capri. Super fun & the captain took us through the Grotta di Matromania. He explained you should kiss as you float through. Fortunately I adore my husband (especially in Italy) so this was fun.

This wonderful grotto is a natural cave that was used for the Mithraic cult during the time of ancient Rome. Matromania comes from 'magna mater' - the great mother, however it was used for the cult of Mithra. The marble slab depicting Mithra is currently in the Archeological Museum of Naples. One can arrive to the cave after a very long walk. Unfortunately the cave is now empty.

This is an outstanding, rigorous hike. Follow directions carefully or you could end up climbing hundreds of extra feet like we did. Google the ruins afterward. Note- the arch was under scaffolding when we were there.

We enjoyed hiking to these limestone caves. Fortunately we had a guide who helped us appreciate what we were seeing. It was nice to step away from the crowds and experience a quieter side of the island.

Once you arrive the views are spectacular. This is a truly gorgeous and romantic. I recommend hiking to it in early morning so you can be back before it gets too hot.
