- BEACHDREAMEROverland Park, Kansas246 contributionsGreat Tour of Paper Factory!!We visited this museum on our last afternoon in Amalfi. We walked up to it & thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The young lady who took us on the tour was very knowledgeable & interesting. It was a fun tour to see how they made the paper & we actually got to make a sheet. We enjoyed the gift shop afterwards as we bought some beautiful bookmarks & stationery to take home to our daughters & Granddaughter. This is very well worth your time to tour, do not miss it!!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 May 2024
- mikel3153Springfield, Illinois11 contributionsWonderful experience to learn about how paper was made in Amalfi. This was as advertised in the other reviews. A bit of a walk from city center but worth it. The guided tour is best. Short, but definitely worth it. Several of the old machines actually still run! Fascinating. Highly recommend.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 May 2024
- Sarah SCulver City, California34 contributionsWorth a visit!Going to the paper museum was a last minute plan on a rainy day in Amalfi but we're so glad we went! The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. They take you on a 20 min tour of the old paper mill and show you every aspect of how it was made and run the machines for you! You even get to make your own paper! I would highly recommend to anybody (kids and adults) if you're looking for something quick, fun and educational to do in Amalfi town. It was one of our favorite parts of our visit!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024
- jhgolden0807Houston, Texas66 contributionsDon't miss the paper museumHoused in a medieval mill, this museum is focused on what was apparently a huge business for many centuries in the town of Amalfi - paper making. The tour includes looking at some old machines used for processing both old cloth and cellulose into a thick, luxurious, sought after "paper". It is a hands-on experience and includes making your own paper.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2024
- Caroline C14 contributionsLovely experienceSmall low key museum - wonderfully cool if you need to escape the sun! Extremely friendly staff and tour guide (19/6/24) was engaging, informative and friendly to my kids who were too shy when offered to make a sheet of paper! Well Done to the staff for being so welcoming of tourists!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 June 2024
- CAD6666New Orleans, Louisiana23 contributionsVery cool historical paper museumThis was a very interesting museum, I enjoyed the tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and was really into the history of this museum… we made sheets of papers which was really cool…. Great activity for a family …. It was educational and very relaxed and low keyed….the tour lasted about 30 minutes at the most …. Most of the time was spent actually making paper Highly recommendVisited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 July 2024
- ANA MARIA C30 contributionsA great time learning to produce paperA unique experience. Charming small museum that explains how Amalfi introduced paper production in Europe centuries ago. Built in a small ancient building for paper production. A nice local guide shows how paper was made and gets to work devices from different centuries. Then you can produce you own piece of paper yourself. Both kids and adults have a great time. A very nice introduction to the relevance of Amalfi in history, and a way to get to know its skillful and inventive inhabitants. Well worth the visit.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 August 2024
- David MPortsmouth, United Kingdom3,477 contributionsExtraordinaryIt's hard not to be impressed with the skill of the engineers that made this paper mill centuries ago. The power of the water from the canalized tanks used to store sufficient water to start the water wheels turning is impressive. This is a working and hands on place!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 September 2024

Emilio was a lively, knowledgeable and amusing tour guide. We bought some lovey handmade paper from the shop as a souvenir too.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2024
- MarianAthens, Greece220 contributionsAmazing experienceHoused in an old paper mill dating back to the 13th century, it is really unique and a trip back in time. You can see centuries-old machines used in the production of handmade paper and try to make some paper as well. You can see the stream, the mill and the whole place is so well preserved. The guided tour in English was informative and fun. It takes about an hour for the whole visit and it's really worth it!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 October 2024

We absolutely loved this little museum! It was such a treat. We got a personalised tour through English and it was fascinating. It only costs a couple of Euro more for the tour, and it is so worth it. We learned about the history of how they made paper here and the different machinery. We got to see the different machines in action too, which was amazing! We even got to make our own paper! The tour only took about 30 mins, so it is very easy to do. The museum shop is great - we ended up buying a few things and wished to buy more, but our carry-on suitcases were too small! We would highly recommend this museum.

My wife, 4 teenage granddaughters and I first traveled to Rome, and stayed at the Albergo Santa Chiara hotel steps from Pantheon. The concierge there, Federica, arranged for our transportation from FCO to the hotel and back; and was so helpful in many ways. In Amalfi, we stayed at both the Amalfi Cathedral Suite and the Hotel Residence - both top notch. From Amalfi we took day trips to Pompeii by van and to Capri by boat. The tour and lunch of the Aceto Lemon Farm in Amalfi was a highlight of our visit. The tour of the paper museum in Amalfi was highly educational as well. It is so easy to book train travel, lodging reservations, tours of places like the Coliseum and the Vatican Museum by oneself - all online. Ciao !!!

A great little museum that is well worth a visit. We joined a tour of about 6 people. We had a go at making our own paper, watched demonstrations of the old paper making machines and had a tour of the museum. The guide spoke good English and was very informative. The gift shop is also lovely!

This small museum is really interesting and well done, and totally warrants a visit. No matter if you choose the normal or the extra entrance, you get a tour guide who explains everything about the paper making process. Which is great, because without explanations, you wouldnt get much of it. Its really interesting to see how paper was made, and how complicated and time consuming it used to be.

Great small museum. It was very interesting to learn some more about Amalfi amd the way paper has been made. If you get the more expensive tickets (7 EUR per person) you even make your own pieace of paper. We were really happy we visited it.

The museum of paper was great. Emilio is such a lovely and helpful person, he showed me how to use the items I wanted to purchase and was super patient with me.
I wanted the guide to show me around (it's only a few euros extra) and I'm glad I did. The guide's English was great, and she knew her stuff. A great experience, I would recommend this to anyone who wants to include a little history and culture in their trip!

Small but very interesting and informative museum. Since the Middle Ages, Amalfi has been one of the centers of paper production. The museum is housed in a paper mill built in the 15th century. There is a souvenir shop where you can buy nice souvenirs.

Would anyone know the best way to get to the museum from Minori please?
Written 17 September 2018
from Minori you can reach Amalfi by land by bus or even better by sea with a ferry. buses and ferries leave approximately every hour. from the square of Amalfi where the Cathedral is located, the paper museum is 800 meters going inland towards the main road. regards

se è accessibile a persone non deambulanti (in sedia a rotelle)
Written 6 April 2017
