The cathedral itself was free (Sunday) and well worth looking around. We went on a paid visit up the tower which is only accessible with a cathedral guide. It was in Spanish only despite half the group being unable to understand a word and there were a lot of words. An Italian family asked if it could be in English but was told in perfect English, its Spanish only, except that is for us being told every now and again in English, to not wander away from the group to take photographs or go to near the bells etc. The view was good but restricted due to anti-bird spikes everywhere

On a recent visit to Murcia, we visited the cathedral free of charge one day. Inside was incredibly beautiful and the actual building is magnificent. The following day I returned to get some more photos and there was an admission charge of €4. I asked what the money was towards and was told for some restoration work and upkeep on the cathedral. Fair enough. However, i must have seen about 50 different people begging for money..as in walking around, begging or sitting outside churches and many of them appeared to be genuine.
Needless to say, we skipped the €8 entrance and handed it out to the people that needed it a lot more!!
PS. They also turn the lights off at 10pm which, although I respect their environmental stance (or money saving) they had only turned them in about 40 minutes earlier so I was unable to get a photo of it illuminated which was a shame as it looked beautiful.

The cathedral looks beautiful from outside but is worth to have a look inside too. Huge pipe organ are impressive . I believe taking a part in a mass can be nice .
Church is quite vibrant and you can meet more locals than tourists

This cathedral is just spectacular outside and inside. Always one of my favourite places to wall by or sit outside in the sunshine. The square in front always has a lovely atmosphere and some children playing around.

The area around this Cathedral is really nice. Lots of families strolling about. Inside the Cathedral was also lovely....another world compared to the hustle and bustle outside. Very similar in design to many Cathedrals dotted around Spain. Free entry.

I was fortunate to visit both the cathedral and the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The inside of the cathedral is stunning and ornate, but not crazy in terms of it being ostentatious. There is an extreme reverence as you walk around and considering the various chapels. The architecture both inside and out is stunning and its various styles, because of a number of various things that occurred when it was being built, are both interesting and beautiful.

If you decide to take the bell tower tour, you will be glad you did. The tour is in Spanish, but there is a really helpful English handout that will tell you most everything you would hear from your tour guide. It is 19 floors up and the majority of it is a rather shallow sloping ramp, so it is reasonable if you concerned because of health. There is a small tower staircase at the top to get to the bell tower, but it is not long and it is certainly worth the visit.

I was fortunate to go with some local people, but met Americans in our group. It was well worth the two or so hours I spent both inside and out. There are a number of wonderful little places to eat near by if you need to wait.

Murcia is a beautiful city and the Cathedral is stunning. We only saw the outside and a tiny peek inside as it was closed until 6.30pm that day. Much of Murcia seems to take the siesta (2-5pm) which is a little frustrating as a tourist. Would go back for an evening visit and to enjoy a meal in the Plaza outside the cathedral.

Many many things to do and see in Murcia. A wonderful city. full of super little tapas bars
tucked away down side streets. The Cathedral in the centre is magnificent. Large and everything you would expect to see and more. Free entry.
The square is dotted with cafe bars and a good tourist info. centre actually in the centre for a change as well. Nice shopping areas and easy to park and walk around..
there is a municipal park to sit, people watch, eat, etc. just to chill. Always a buzz there.
Move on to Cartegena Port which is wonderful and one of my favourite places. I live here in Spain and visit the Port often. Find the outdoor amphi theatre and the very informative
museum in the centre of the square with re enacting war scenes and showing life
very early on in Spain. Lovely restaurants in a long central walk as well as
tucked away places to eat. Visit the Casino steeped in history - for a walk inside and look
at the paintings, the tiles, the rooms where local men play dominoes, cards etc. or just
a drink and sit. The Port is magnificent with hundreds of boats, and cafes all around.
easy underground parking here as well with a 5 mins. walk to town centre. Big brass statues to look at and take pics.

Nice. Did not like to pay, to enter a cathedral, and overall do not think a ticket was needed, considering everything. Anyway, a must visit, when there.
