Nice little walk along the sea front. Nothing particularly special unless you're a huge boat fan. Careful cause it can get windy even on warm days

Our Seabourn ship docked here at the cruise terminal, which is all of 5 minutes from the city center. It is located in the Port's Marina area, on the northern end. The Mediterranean Sea is an exceptionally beautiful body of water and this setting was second-to-none. Often, cruise ships will be docked in heavily industrialized commercial areas, in the company of oil tankers and all manner of container ships, etc. Not so here.

The short stroll to the Old Town (straight ahead) passes through an expansive green belt, adorned with interesting sculptures (like a head) and bronze soldiers either pensively sitting on a bench or striding along the palm tree lined promenade to the Old Town.

As a cruise ship passenger, there were many unique ship-board opportunities to view the marina, its buildings and fortifications, and its inherent natural beauty. The contours of the layers of hills expressed themselves in shades of purple, blue, and soft grays.

Cartagena is a very beautiful city full of historical sights (and sites) and the marina was a perfect way to make its acquaintance.

During our (small ship) docking, a really huge Disney cruise ship came into to dock. Wow, what a sea of humanity it disgorged!

We took a walk along the waterfront to view the various aspects of the harbour area. The cruise liner berth seems to be doing well with a different ship on each day we were here. Judging by the static cranes and empty berths, the freight berths don’t seem to be doing much however, and the fishing boat section looked both small and a bit sad.

That leaves the yacht marina that had a decent number of yachts berthed, but nothing to write home about, and my feeling was that if you like to visit ports that have lots going on - you best go somewhere else.

Our ship had docked at Pier Alfonso XII Cruise Terminal in the natural harbor of Cartagena. This important harbor was established as a major naval center by the Carthaginians in 227 BC. Cartagena was a booming place during the Roman period. Today the harbor is still a busy port and important naval base, capital of the Spanish Navy’s Maritime Department of the Mediterranean since the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th century, but from our vantage point all we could see were hundreds of masts of pleasure boats anchored cheek and jowl. With more than 3,000 hours of sun a year and mild year round temperatures, it’s no wonder this is a popular destination.

We did an evening walk with our bicycle along the yacht port. The tranquility, the smell of the sea, a soft breese and spotting beautiful yachts was a good idea.

Very nice place to walk as it is very wide and borders the port and the old city. The breeze is superb and the views majestic. So many yachts in the port, and you may be able to see a cruise liner also.

A really great, well positioned port for walking into the old city. The city is very beautiful and vibrant. There was an interesting local parade happening with vintage cars and locals in costume. Fabulous.

Loved being able to exit the ship and immediately be “Downtown”, as the main sights were right within a good hike around and threw the downtown. Clean, well cared for downtown area and after a week dodging the homeless, beggars and urine and dog debris of Barcelona very refreshing. The Roman ruins, hilltop views and castle and then to wander downtown for a few hours worked very well from a cruise perspective as it was so close one could easily spend 5 hours on ones self directed excursion and see it all.
