From 5 to 6 artist on stage: Two dancers with a singer, a guitarrist, percussion and sometimes a violin.

Shows every day (Mondays closed) at 20:30 and at 22:00. Since its beginnings, Flamenco has evolved in hidden places. It is danced and sung in private, in the presence of a select group of friends, without any amplification. Often, a brick cellar would be chosen, due to its wonderful acoustics.

This is the authentic, unvarnished performance that we seek to recreate: a man and a woman dancing, a singer, a guitarist and percussion, sounds and shadows on ancient brick-lined cellar walls, all in a show lasting one hour.

Welcome to Essential Flamenco.

Great show!

Both the players and the dancers were very good, and the atmosphere was very nice. We enjoyed the show a lot!

Hello Natalia: Thank you for your review. The artists also enjoy the show, as you probably noticed. It´s a feedback, for both sides. So, you were part of the deal, too :) More

This was my first time experiencing Flamenco and it was incredible!! I originally wasn't going to go because I was so tired but thankfully I did! The performers made me fall in love with Flamenco and I sat in awe the entire hour and was definitely not tired at the end of it! Great value for money and I loved... More

Hello Greer: You write that at the end of the show you felt "not tired", as you were when you come. That´s because the energy the artists feel on scene is so powerful that reaches you, being seated so close to them. We accept all the stars over the fifth one that you gave us! :) "The performers made me... More

This show surpassed all expectations. We found an awesome deal on Groupon, and though we had some trouble/confusion booking it through Groupon for a specific day and time (it doesn't give you the option to choose, but you just need a ticket apparently), and it only takes PayPal, it ended up all paying off. The show itself was truly what... More

Wow! "It was definitely a huge highlight of our trip that we will never forget" Words like this makes our hair stands on end. The artist´s work could not receive a better payment. Thank you very much for your warm review. About the Groupon deal, yes, it´s messy. But it was just a discount campaign that has finalized anyway. More

First of all I would like to say I absolutely cannot give this place five stars because of its poorly organized website that made online reservations a nightmare and unforgivably unorganized. They have two buttons that take you to two different websites with different payment systems. One of them do not work and the other just deposits money into a... More

What an intimate experience. this is a tiny place and not elegant seating but you wont notice because you will be mesmerized by the show. It is a small theatre and the dancers are magnificent. The drinks you get a large so you will have a good time!

Hello Shaun: "mesmerized by the show", that´s the artists mission, and even though they have fun during acting, they take it very seriously. We are glad we score it. Thanks four your nice review. More

Really authentic and intense Flamenco show. Good as an introduction to the genre. The early show is even suitable for kids (in my case 8 and 12).

Fantastic music and dancing experience. Proper cultural night in Madrid. We recommend this place for an intimate night not to be forgotten

David: You are right: " cultural night in Madrid". Flamenco is a important part of spanish culture, although same people here thinks that this is just "a entertainment for tourists". Thank you for your kind comment. More

This Flamenco show is located in a basement of a small club. There are no speakers or no other electronic equipment, all the music is done purely by acoustic instruments, voices and dancing shoes. It was very thrilling, and I'd gladly come back - although it's a bit pricey (24.90pp).

Hello Pavol: This is the way flamenco used to be. Without amplification. 50 people seated around the artists. But this is not profitable, then almost all tablaos put amplifiers, and seat 250 people. You said "it's a bit pricey", but we are just covering the expenses. But this is the way we want to do it. Real flamenco. Thanks four... More

The experience might be impressive if this is your first visit to a tablao flamenco. However, if you have previously seen flamenco shows in Andalucia, you might remain slightly disappointed of the score. Although the dance is good, what I enjoyed most were the solo acts of the other artists (guitarist, violonist, drummer, vocalist). I was disappointed of the lack of passion and... More

Hello Alina: It´s surprising your comment, because one of the things that reviews emphasis more, is the quality of the dancers. He has performed as principal dancer in "Carmen", with Salvador Távora and in "El amor brujo", with Mario Maya, all around the world (Tokio, París,... More

A few friends and I are studying abroad this semester and stopped in Madrid during a spring break trip. We came across Essential Flamenco on trip advisor and booked tickets. Taylor: You don´t imagine how much I would like that spanish students came to see flamenco as you did with your friends. It´s hard to believe, but flamenco is a big unknown among spanish people in general. It´s like in the USA, they would ignore Jazz. Thank for your kind review. More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
