- Kenzie K55 contributionsA Must-See in Madrid! The show was absolutely stunning. With only three rows of seats, the emotions of the artists and dancers can be felt up close. I would declare this a “must see” show in Madrid. 10/10 🥰 I enjoyed the fact that we didn’t have waiters coming in and out for dinner, it made for a more immersive experience. We got to bring our drinks downstairs as well.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 February 2024
- DONNY SBoynton Beach, Florida523 contributionsFantastic FlamencoWife and I were staying at Blume Cruz Suites (see my separate review of this wonderful hotel) directly across from this flamenco show. There are three shows each night and the shows are about 1 hour long. Included were drinks for each of us. We each had large glasses of sangria sitting in an open bar area upstairs. About 10 minutes before showtime you walk downstairs to a brick cellar enclosure which holds about 40 people. This cellar theater is intimate and up close to the performers and the music. First you hear about the origins of the flamenco dance. The performers and the music were excellent. Well worth a very reasonable price for admission and drinks.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024
- Shariann L103 contributionsWonderful flamenco! Do not miss!True flamenco by expert artists. I have studied flamenco for five years and I was utterly floored by this performance. No frills--no fancy costumes or staging, just absolute pure flamenco the way it was meant to be. And each musician had a highlighted solo as well as the stunning dancing. Go early to get your drink in the charming bar, then down in the cellar where you are so very close to the performers. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. When I am in Madrid agin I will return!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 August 2024

Impossible to book online on the Essential Flamenco website 4 tickets for 2 adults and 2 children for shows on Fridays or Saturdays. It is possible to do so for other days of the week, but it seems kids are less welcome on weekends and their access is more restricted. The website offers no transparency on the topic, with no explanations or warning. That's a shame and our family is spending our money elsewhere with another flamenco show.

Hello. We are very sorry about the situation. We are looking at what could have happened, since it must have been an error in the online booking platform and we will solve it as soon as possible.

The mood, the music, the dance, and the location were all amazing. It was an intense and very engaging experience especially due to the fact that you're sitting so close to the performers and get to see all the moves and hear all the sounds perfectly well without the need of a sound system. Enjoyed every minute of it!

We really enjoyed the show. The theatre is small and welcoming. Did not feel touristy at all. We were greeted by sangria and had a chance to chill before the energetic show! The performers were exceptional and we really appreciated the skills and art of Flamenco. Highly recommend.

You can’t come to Spain and not see a Flamenco show! Although this is in the heart of tourist-land don’t be put off. It is really good and properly auténtico. It is short and to the point set in an intimate cellar environment. Good fun, highly recommended

Great Flamenco show with fantastic artists! One hour of captivating dancing, singing and music. I liked that it was not dining. There is sangria/ or another drink included in the ticket. This is well recommended if you are visiting Madrid.

This was by far the best part of our trip. Extremely glad that we went to this one. Staff are incredibly friendly and went out their way to give us incredible seats (private booth in the middle of the room). This place is not open every night (I think it is open Thursday-Sunday) so check and book in advance. This place is a must see if visiting madrid, we will certainly be returning! Thank you for providing fantastic entertainment and an enjoyable experience!

I was visiting my partner's family in Spain for the first time and wanted to experience flamenco. We had heard great flamenco at his village, but I also wanted to see flamenco in Madrid. We chose this place because of its great reviews, but we were bitterly disappointed. It's a tourist trap, with indifferent and utterly forgettable performances. I guess they assume tourists will enjoy it because they won't know any better; there were no locals in attendance, which I suppose is good, since my Spanish partner said in disgust afterwards that locals would have booed these performers off the stage.
Where do I begin. The singer and the bailaora, the dancer, both had bitter, indifferent expressions on their faces from the very beginning, that suggested this was a nightly gig for money and nothing more to them. The singer was forgettable at best. The dancer seemed to be or to have once been quite capable, but the stage was so tiny that she could barely move, and did little more than tap her feet and strike dramatic poses. The flamenco guitarist was better, but he too, had an expression that suggested he had little faith in the evening himself. That had a disillusioning effect on me and my partner.
We were bored within 20 minutes. Also, the place brags about having the audience get "within touching distance" of the dancers. I'd say that being that close up is not a plus. You cannot get a full visual sense of the performance or much enjoyment when you're close enough to touch the dancer's dress, see her bitter eye-roll up close, and feel drops of her sweat hit your skin as she spins.
Save your money and seek out a non-tourist trap.

Dear Molly
We are very sorry that you may not have understood what you have seen. Both the artists and the management of this venue work more for love of this art form than for money, I assure you. Our price, 19.50 euros, is half of what other places are charging.
The artistic director of the show, El Mistela, is the winner of a National Flamenco Award. The owner of the venue, Ramiro Figueroa, was director of a university theatre for 15 years. We love all arts and this art form in particular. For this reason we want to revive authentic Flamenco, as it used to be, sung and danced in "El cuarto" ( Flamenco expression used for brick vaulted cellars, spaces which were below ground like ours, to which only the "aficionados", those who understand, had access).
A tiny stage ( sometimes it was only a piece of wood to dance on), a pair of dancers, a guitarist, a singer and "maestro", a well known performer specially invited. On this occasion you have seen the mythical Juan Ramirez, an exceptional dancer who began performing 40 years ago with Paco de Lucia. His videos are on YouTube.
We do not know what type of Flamenco you have seen before, but we assure you that this art is not performed while smiling. The artists feel what they are performing profoundly and their faces are a reflection of those feelings, often bitter and dramatic.
A cellar with a small stage, with no more than 40 people sat around the artists, feeling their emotion "within touching distance" is exactly what we want to offer, and this is how we publicise it.
A large stage with amplification, 200 people in the audience, the artists dressed in colourful costumes, dancing Sevillanas, worn out waiters serving paellas, and smiles, lots of smiles- that is exactly what you will find in places for tourists. Not here. Here you only have the essence and the emotion. Here you only have pure Flamenco.
With best wishes, the Directors.

We loved oven mozzarella bar (Italian food) and O cacho do Jose (Portuguese steaks) after eating so much tapas we missed the hot meals.
Awesome places excellent ambiance not expensive at all...
I reviewed both places on my trip to Madrid 2 weeks ago highly recommended.

Can the audience join in with the dancing towards the end of the show?

Hello Jordan: Flamenco music is the way two very different things are named. One is the flamenco folk music, the folclore from Andalucía (the sevillanas dance, for example). In this kinds of flamenco shows, many times they invited you to go up to the stage, every body will have a loughter, and a nice "paella y sangría" party time.
The other is flamenco jondo. Skilled artist that show their intense emotions, and your role is just been seated there feeling with all your soul, sometimes untll the tears. You will applaude with enthusiasm, the artist will have a feedback, and they will take your emotion to grow up.
Difficult thing to explain in four words, specially with my half-baked english :)
Finally, to answer your question: No, you can not join the dancers in our show

Hello Niloo:
Its 13 minutes walk (Google said), crossing tourist streets, full of people all day and night. Specially at night! There is a bar every corner...
All the center of Madrid is very safe at any hour, actually.
Of course, where are tourist are also some pickpockets, but are few and you have to go "looking the moon" and with your purse hanging open at your back to be stolen, you know what I mean. :)
The whole city of Madrid, and Spain in general, is a safe country, very friendly with tourism.
Best regard,
Ramiro Figueroa
