The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
How to get there
  • Banco de España • 3 min walk
  • Retiro • 7 min walk

Beautiful views! Went at night for a drink and enjoyed beautiful views of Madrid. Drinks were great also. We had some great quality tapas and the service was great.

Very interesting. Had a free exhibition about the evolution of Madrid and a map of the UNESCO site. We also went to the roof top bar and the view was amazing. Drinks on the pricey side.

A quick stop to take in the scenery.

The plaza is near many attractions in Madrid.

Nice scenery and views of the historic area.

A good spot for pictures.

We moved on quickly.

One of the most beautiful building in Madrid is without a shadow of a doubt Palacio De Cibeles .
Formally known as Palacio De Comunicacions and then Palacio De Telecommunications ,it's a stunning piece of architecture ,built in an architectural style known as Neoplateresque with elements of Baroque architecture ,it's such an awesome looking building to view ,when I first viewed this palace building I thought it was much older than it actually is ,it was constructed between 1907-1919 ,this building sits proudly on Plaza De Cibeles and is a must go destination if you're planning a holiday to Madrid.

I was exploring the area, and went inside and was confronted with a security check. There weren’t many people inside, and there wasn’t much to see, however still a nice building.

.Like many others I cannot say I got to go inside the town hall building, but was attracted to walk here at night to see it in it’s illuminated glory.
And a lot of people do. The best vantage point is on pavement opposite by the tall wall that surrounds the Jardínes del Palacio de Buenavista. From here you get the impressive Fuente de Cibeles in the foreground and the town hall as a backdrop. And as the fountain is lit up blue it makes a striking contrast to the Palacio behind.

My wife and visited the place, great place for sure with amazing view and breath-taking architecture. The food at the restaurant, on the other hand, was not that great.

A beautiful palace only seen from the outside unfortunately. Stunning when illuminated at night. Has a beautiful fountain in front of it.

Recommended when in the area.

Palacio de Cibeles serves as city hall of Madrid - but never mind about that.

This post is only to tell you to go there in the evening (maybe after a long day of shopping on the Gran Via) - the palacio is one of Madrid’s great photo ops by night.

Stunning building designed by architects Antonio Palacios and Joaquín Otamendi opened in 1919 and served as the Head Post Office. It is now Madrid’s City Council headquarters and home to CentroCentro (Cultural Centre). This venue is a public meeting place and a setting for action, participation, leisure, and learning. Activities held here include concerts, exhibitions, workshops, seminars, performances, screenings, and publications. Inside the palace are City Council offices, an Auditorium, Crystal Gallery, and Exhibition areas. There is also a cafeteria, 2 restaurants, a bar and the 8th floor Mirador observation deck where one can see the outstanding Madrid views. The Palace was declared a Cultural Heritage Monument in 1993. Free tours are available- take advantage
