This is a historical building from the 17th century. It used to be military barracks for the Spanish army. Nowadays, it is a cultural center. It hosts a museum and also a historical library. The entrance door and the courtyard are just amazing.

Came to this cultural center and was impressed on how they used this old military building now as a cultural center. The auditorium is quite good, very modern. Worth to check the calendar as they seem to be very active with tons of offerings!

This place is huge- like three city blocks long, and mostly full of empty space and doors saying 'no entry'. I saw dozens of brochures describing all the activities that take place here, but it was a real ghost town. I did manage to find a couple exhibition spaces, with art that was not entirely disinteresting. According to their literature and web site there was lots of stuff to see and do, but after searching around this behemoth for a while I just gave up. Mostly free for visitors, maybe a charge for some stuff if it really exists here. I think it really exists to create employment.

Having the good fortune to live in Madrid for four months, I visit the Conde Duque cultural centre as much as I can -- for dance performances (the seven contenders in the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid final all performed with breathtakingly high quality!), the contemporary art museum, the temporary exhibitions; but there are also often musical events.

Many of these are accessible free of charge or for modest entrance fees only.

The building -- former military quarters -- and its vast squares is worth the trip in its own right. It is both stately and intimate. Go and see for yourself!

Cuartel del Conde Duque is a huge square building with a large central courtyard and impressive entrance. A public library is housed here with small exhibitions. as well as government buildings. Built in 1717 as a barracks for the Royal Guard.

We went in most of the activities during the Xmas period.
They had very nice theater plays, a book fair and other activities. Most of them for free or with a very small price.
