From what I heard, this neighborhood has been revived in the past years by the gay community...It is awesome, and in my opinion, the best restuarants in Madrid are located in this area. It is right off the Gran Via and it is hip and...More

The Chueca metro square is a hub for partying starting around 5 pm and picks up speed about 11:30pm until 4 am. This area is NOT for sleeping. Earplugs, alcohol and sleeping medications don't even make a dent in the noise level. Great for meandering...More

Chueca is a great neighborhood to stroll around. There are nice bars and restaurants, a great range of interesting shops. There is also a lively market where you can have a good meal or drink.

Independently if it’s gay area or not, I would say this street contains some of the best restaurants and pubs and night life in Madrid. It doesn’t get as crazy as they paint it “with travestis everywhere” and that. Just a normal night life street...More

When we come to Madrid we stay just North of this barrio but we spend a lot of time just wandering around. There are so many great independent shops and cafes here and it is not full of tourists and it feels safe.

My wife took a walk at Calle del Barquillo, and found that it has many good small boutiques. Many of these stores sell clothing that is quite good. We also took a look at the Hotel Only You, which has a very good design.

Absolutely full of young people day and night. Obviously a cool place to be. But the number of gay places was few and far between, so this must be the historic gay area and has changed with the times. We had a good dinner here.

I like it. There are a lot of stores, some of them very original. A lot of fun to walk around browsing things.

Walked through this district several times a day, easy going, no problems at all. The shops are funny, saw very specific underwear in shops, not my every shops. Anyway a lovely district. Pay attention to the lights at the street crossings. The "walk - dont...More

Gay Madrid & the Chueca District is an old district with high terrraced buildings along narrow streets. Plenty of bars and cafes although nothing happening during the day as of course it's known to come alive at night.

Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where
many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where
the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and
people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main
thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is
Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables
serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture
of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
