Malasana is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite district in Madrid, its vibrant and exciting, wonderful eclectic architecture, great shopping outlets if you're into you're retail therapy, for me it's the pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants that draw me to this district ,so many great places to chill out ,its the real Madrid to me ,if you're planning a holiday to Madrid its a district to most definitely check out.

We stayed in this area. It has some great restaurants with vintage shops and some vegan restaurants if that is your thing. The area has a bohemian feel and is close to Gran Via and the major tourist areas. I'm glad we stayed here.

This is one cool part of town. There are lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops (HanSo Coffee, our favorite is here), bars, markets… There is something here for everyone. This is a bit busier than Las Letras, but it is also closer to Gran Via. We found ourselves here more often than we realized during our 9 days in Madrid.

You might get tired from looking up so much... don't miss all the details in the pretty buildings!!!!! Just walk!

Malasana is a district of Madrid full of cafes, bakeries and retro clothing stores. When delving into the district, you can see that what is most characteristic. On the ground floors of the tenement houses there are florists, tattoo studios, antique shops, shops with hand-made decorations, butcher's shops, fish shops, greengrocers, bakeries, boutiques, drugstores, haberdashery and of course bars and bistros. Quite a variety. There is a truly charming atmosphere here, transferred straight from a small town.In the Malasana district, you can feel a slight difference in height, which is rare in the city. At night you can visit avant-garde dance and rock clubs with live bands. It's worth getting lost, a little bit, in this area.

Extremely picturesque neighborhood above Grand Via, with narrow streets filled with restaurants, cafes and small shops. There are quite interesting buildings dotted with street art.

Nice place for food and shopping and easy access to some very central areas ( Gran Via). We really liked it, it is lively and safe st the same time and not very loud at night.

We used a self guided walk from the Lonely Planet guide to explore this area. This was one of favourite areas in the city, great buzz, cute shops and restaurants. Would stay closer next time.

Hi, to visit Malasana the route will depend on where you are starting from and what specific sites you want to see.
There are several metro lines that can take you to Malasana and the largest is likely Plaza d'Espana, but you have several choices.
I would suggest you identify the line that is closest to your starting point (e.g. hotel) and the point of interest that you most want to see in Malasana and create your route using the Madrid Metro Map.
Don't worry about making your route until you arrive when you can get help from your hotel staff, friends, or the traveler information at the airport or in the city.
A good link can be found if you search for "madrid metro map".
A good value is to buy the 10 trip metro ticket. The 10-trip ticket is inexpensive and may be a better value than a variety of other options offered by the Madrid Metro.
Thanks and safe travels, G

Any particular areas (I.e. streets, intersections, points of interest, etc.) of Malasana that you can recommend in terms of high concentrations of pubs/bars and good local restaurants? Or just any individual bars or restaurants you can recommend? You seem to have really enjoyed your experience in the neighborhood! Thank you :)
