The area

Neighbourhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Lovely theatre in Gran Via. We were sitting at back of first floor and had a great view. Nice bar with lovely staff

I attended the Lion King at Teatro Lope de Vega, and I must say it was fantastic. It is important to not that the show was in Spanish so if you want to understand what the characters are saying then this might be a deal breaker, but it is such an iconic show that you know what is going on anyway. As someone who had experience in theatre from high school, I was blown away by the set, lights and music. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good evening downtown, but make sure to book your tickets in advance. The website is http://www.elreyleon.es/ It is just like on Broadway, although to be truthful I have not seen the Broadway version since I was very young. I would rate it as a must for any theatre lovers visiting Madrid.

When we were in Madrid we saw the muscial El Rey Leon. which was very enjoyable. The theater is quite big, yet immediate. We did not feel lost in it. The musical was a bit long, but highly interesting, especially the costumes.

This version in Spanish has its unique twist with outstanding actors and scenery. Disney quality. Small theatre so you have no bad seats. Comfortable and very great acoustics.

Fantastic show but dont sit too near the stage as it dilutes special effect and overall perception. A show you must see.

My wife was desperate to see the lion king - even though it was in Spanish and we dont speak a word. We went anyway and had an amazing evening. The theater is great and the show was stunning. If you have seen the film then you will be able to muddle your way through. Great place and great prices.

Thank you first of all to all the Tripadvisor reviewers! It was reading all the wonderful comments for this show that made me decide to go.
What a spectacular show! The costumes are incredible, the music fantastic and the dancing excellent! I loved it!
I had a seat with a restricted view as this was one of the few seats available but as I was prepared for this it was not a problem and yes, there were parts of the stage I couldn't see as I was at the very far side but I didn't detract from the enjoyment at all.
Definitely recommend this show, if you get the chance, go and see it!

Great venue and very intimate. There’s lots of history here and I like that it is smaller than some of the venues in New York or Los Angeles. The acoustics in the venue is pretty good so I was pretty happy to watch El Rey Leon here. The only thing I didn’t like is that the theater isn’t too much of a stadium so if you sit behind someone tall you are out of luck. They also serve popcorn so it was a bit weird to smell that during a musical. It does make the whole place pretty ugly afterwards as people drop so much popcorn on the floor. The floor was also sticky too it felt like an old movie theater. The seats aren’t too comfortable and if you are tall there isn’t much legroom: With that said I think it’s still a great theater that is worth checking out. The sound from the lion king was amazing and the actors were brilliant for utilizing the small stage with perfection.
