Toledo and Segovia Tour with Alcazar Entrance from Madrid

1,016 reviews
Visiting both Toledo and Segovia in a day from Madrid is near impossible without a car rental and some serious time management. On this trip, you get to see both cities as a guide charts their history, minus the stress of organizing transport. Plus, you’re certain of seeing the key sights, including Toledo’s Primada Cathedral, and Segovia’s Roman aqueduct and Alcazar. Ideal if you’re pressed for time and want a day out of Madrid.

There are a couple of design exhibitions at the moment as part of the Madrid design festival. One focuses on a contemporary designer, Patricia Urquiola who has produced some lovely work although with overcomplicated explanations and another exhibition looks at 100 objects and how their design has evolved to make them more user friendly, more beautiful, smaller...There is a further room full of, 'astral objects' There is some explanation in English which is helpful. Very interesting overall and free.

This is a free resource which is underground and easy to miss and reminds me of the Barbican centre in London which was built around the same time. At the moment there is an exhibition about post civil war popular music and culture which is interesting but all in Spanish.

The museum is closed on a Monday but there is an interesting permanent display showing the construction of the centre, the moving of the Colon statue and the creation of the 1970s monument.

I have been passed Plaza Colon many times and had no idea that this huge underground space existed. It is a bit like The Barbican in London with various separate exhibition spaces. At the moment one of the large spaces is being used as part of the Madrid Design Festival. There is a large section on pieces designed by Jaime Hayon for various global brands - this is fantastic as the range of design is huge and everyone will find something that they like. There is also a display of 20th century household electronic devices plus a final room exploring album design. This exhibition is free. Allow an hour.
