They recommend you to see it at night. It is indeed amazing, the problem is you do not get to take good pictures since the plaza is mainly dedicated to cars and buses and you just have to look to the statue from a fair distance. It still remains very nice

No visit to Madrid would be complete without seeing and visiting the Plaza de Cibeles. The fountain with its huge sculptures are an arresting sight. It is a focal point for Real Madrid victory celebrations. Apparently in the past, these celebrations became very enthusiastic and perhaps a bit robust and inevitably some damage was caused to the fountain and its... More

When Real Madrid wins in Madrid this is where they celebrate. The fountain is really very pretty and by night it is awesome. This is also the place where they have the airport bus taking you from the city to the airport for only 5 euros. Very crowded place but lovely.

A moment in this place gives everyone who has the joy of this experience a meeting place to make a connection with the spirit of Spain, now and in the past. One must rest in this very, very special place to benefit from the moment.

We had high expectations for the famous Cibeles fountain, but on our visit, the fountain was drained and didn't look as impressive as what we have heard. Don't get me wrong, the 250+ year old statue looks immaculate but we were just expecting more. Guess our high expectations spoilt our visit.

I like this spot very much because you can experience a very big crossroad and in the middle you can look at a very nice statue. Additionally you can go to the town hall and climb to the top. From there you will have an awesome view over the city

A beautiful building always getting photographed and definitely worth a visit. A short walk from the city centre and a metro station close by.

During a HopOn/HopOff bus tour passing this Cibeles building, I notice a large cloth sign hanging from the upper floors proclaiming "Refugees Welcome." I am glad that there is at least the protestation of acceptance of refugees. I hope that the refugees do not detract from the Spanish elan of Spain. Otherwise, the plaza de Cibeles is only mildly interesting.

Impressive place beautiful beautiful water fountain with impressive sculptures. Lovely to pass by in a car on a hot summers day with the windows open feeling the fresh water breeze. Very very beautiful.

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
