The Matadero was once Madrid's slaughterhouse (did you know that "matador" meant "killer"?) and sits just outside the centre of town to the south (metro Legazpi). It has been brilliantly and tastefully converted into a modern arts centre where artists of all varieties can exhibit...More

The Matadero is an interesting arts center in Madrid that was created out of an old slaughterhouse that was used to slaughter bulls after they were tortured in bullfights; renovating this place and using it as an arts center was clever and resourceful and is...More

I went without much expectation and was very pleased with the experience at the place. Some art shows, food and an entertaining experience for the family.

I guess I should have googled activities before going. After a very long walk in Madrid Rio, here was absolutely nothing at the Matadero. Nothing to eat, nothing to drink. Nothing.

The old slaughter house with a typical industrial arquitecture was transformed into a cultutal and social center in a very clever way. Has a movie theater, restaurant, theater hall, library an indoors playground. You can walk to the river with outdoors playgrounds and bridges.

This is one of the new vibe places in Madrid. With many different areas you may always find an exhibition, theatre play, nice food and some parade.
