The area

Neighbourhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Pepi really knows her stuff! Lively, hands-on, home-style paella, Spanish tortilla and sangria, prepared collectively in the intimate setting of her lovely home. Great way to enhance your experience in Madrid!

Paloma was a great host! I had a great time with her and the other guests. She was very fun and knowledgeable. We learned by cooking ourselves with her supervision. Will definitely recommend this course

Pilar was so hospitable in her home. She was extremely knowledgeable about traditional paella and allowed everyone in the group work to make the feast.
I really enjoyed it and feel inspired to make it for my family when I return home.
The traditional Sangria and Spanish tortilla were also amazing!

I would highly recommend Paloma's cooking class! My daughter (10 yo) and I took this class together and we both loved every second. I had a hard time finding a cooking class in Madrid that allowed children, and I am so glad I found Paloma. She was a gracious, funny, welcoming, and informative teacher, and she made the class so much fun for everyone involved. We started with sangria (and Fanta for my daughter), made tortilla and paella, and also enjoyed tapas along the way. Everything was delicious, and we can't wait to try our hand at Spanish cooking on our own. If you want an authentic cooking experience in Madrid with an AWESOME chef and teacher, sign up for one of Paloma's classes!!
