The highest garden

It was a very good idea to make a garden on the wall. Looks fantastic in a sunny day. U can seat there with a cup of coffee and relax

Very nice building and a great show. The shop had a great choice of art for sale and some really interesting exhibits.

You can enter the building without paying but will have to pay to see the exhibitions. Go to the top floor for the best view down the staircase. Cafeteria was OK but not too welcoming. Check out the living wall on the outside of the building

Small exhibitions. Well designed. The lightning could be better. The shop and caferia deserve a visit.

This gallery sometimes features fantastic exhibitions so you should check out their website before you visit Madrid. The location is within the museum triangle so not out of the way but probably doesn't feature prominently on tourist trails. I had the good fortune to be there when they exhibited paintings by some of the most famous artists in the world... More

Private museum from a banking group. Sister site of the more spectacular Barcelona operation. Always has at least one good show. Program changes often. Top floor restaurant and café an ideal place to get away from the hot weather.

It is sponsored by a bank, but activities and exhibitions are always top. Don't miss the garden on the wall

A really good art center near the two biggest museums cities of Madrid (Prado and Queen Sofia), Caja Fórum it's a contemporary art center, where you can see exhibitions of Spanish newest and coolest artists.

I was drawn to the Caixa by the huge living wall outside, designed by a French botanist. In the museum, there was a great exhibit on loan from the British museum with fascinating artifacts from the Middle Ages. For something completely different, there was an exhibit of photographs by photographer Phillippe Halsman, who shot many iconic photos of celebrities for... More

This is a very modern museum. We saw an exhibition about Philippe Halsman. Very well done in spacious rooms. And a nice museum shop too ;-)

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
