It was such a beautiful building, though it was undergoing some restoration work right now. Just go and see, regardless of your religion. The architecture is stunning, couldn't find words to describe it.

The purpose of our trip was to follow the Camino across northern Spain, ending at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. While I was disappointed that the cathedral was covered in scaffolding due to much-needed renovation work being done, the interior was spectacular.

A lot of cathedrals around Europe have turned into museums. This place is very much alive in its spiritual practices. Masses all the time, pilgrims rituals, a must see.

And a meaningful one, you get to hug the Cathedral's namesake, Santiago. Behind the stunning main altar is a stairway that leads up to a giant bust of Saint James which you are encouraged to embrace. Then there is the giant botafumerio arcing over the crowded mass-an amazing sight. Take the audio tour-it is well worth it. Even if you... More

Beautiful cathedral with plazas all around! As this is the culmination of the Camino de Santiago, it's a busy place. Tourists come by bus loads in warmer months. Pilgrims walk in year round. Daily masses are offered plus there's a museum to visit that's open everyday.

Shame it was being restored when we visited it, but still amazing! Really need a tour guide to explain the various parts of the cathedral to get full meaning, but really worth the visit. Entrance is free, but you have to pay to see the cathedral museum

Finished the camino saturday and went to Sunday mass. The service was fantastic and we got to experience the Bufaremia. Truly an experience.

Very large and lovely Cathedral. A visit will take several hours. We attended the pilgrim's mass on Friday which is particularly beautiful.

Free to enter and walk around. A beautiful serene place. Worth visiting after dark too, go outside the rear of the cathedral to see how a shadow cast looks just like a pilgrim! A pity the front has a lot of renovations going on.
