I don't get why this merits a TripAdvisor listing. It's a plaza on the side of the church, with a curved piece of metal and fire on top. Okay. What's next?

The symbolism is beautiful. The fire on top of this piece is always lit. It never goes out. Besides this monument, there really is nothing much here. It is near the Santa Maria Del Mar and a really tasty donut and pastry shop! That is...More

The square is stark and has nothing other than this red thin curved spire which in itself is not that interesting but its simplicity had some resonance as it symbolised Catalonian independence. It is probably misunderstood and neglected by most tourists but worth a look...More

The are is simply stunning! The square is so nice, on the side of Santa maria del mar ( one of the most amazing cathedrals of Barcelone).

Hearing about the meaning behind this monument offered a great insight into the Catalonian spirit. The fire never goes out.

For the time being Catalonia is still part of Spain. They lost their independence in 1714 and Catalonians was both suppressed then and even more by the Franco-dictatorship after the defeat in the Spanish Civil War in the 1930’s. This site commemorate the martyrs of...More

This is a monument with an eternal flame to commemorate those fallen in the war of 1713, when King of Spain Charles II died without an heir and the French Louis XIV's grandson was expected to rule. As the French had taken so many territories...More

The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent
the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But
this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually
