About
The Montjuïc Cable Car has been the most special way to discover the charms of Barcelona for many years. Its 750 meters of route allow you to enjoy unparalleled views, culminating your journey in the Montjüic Castle, on the top of a mountain that represents the living history of the city. If you are looking for a cable car in Barcelona, the Telefèric opens its doors every day from 10:00 in the morning until sunset, depending on the season. You will enjoy the most emblematic symbols of Barcelona as never before, such as the Sagrada Familia, the Camp Nou or the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. You will have Barcelona at your feet! Hygiene and safety measures: We control the user capacity in the facilities. We reinforce the hygiene and disinfection measures in the cabins and in the rest of the installations to guarantee your safety. We provide you with hand disinfection points.

- permia40,931 contributionsAll the way to the CastleTaking the Funicular to the cable car station, it was an exciting trip, both ascending and later the reverse. A lovely clear day added to the experience. On a continuous loop, it was grand to arrive at the first level where the car turns right and then continues to close to the Castle entrance. Fine vistas are to be had on both legs of the excursion.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 April 2023
- _SLH138_Minneapolis, Minnesota150 contributionsFun!This was a fun activity that provided great views and a way up to Castell de Montjuic. The ticket sales start at 10:00. When we arrived about 10:30, the line was short and manageable. When we came back down a couple hours later, the line was very long. We were also able to have the cable cars to ourselves on the way up and back, but I'm sure that's not allowed once the crowds arrive.Visited April 2023Written 22 April 2023
- Georgie TSunbury, United Kingdom326 contributionsBest Views of BarcelonaWhat an amazing way to see Barcelona from the air. The pods are constantly moving so it's a step on/step off system but whether they would stop it for people who are unsteady on their feet - I would hope so. It was reasonably quiet when we went with just a 5 minute queue for tickets so they weren't too bothered about letting couples have a pod to themselves but that may change at the height of the season. The trip goes all the way to the Castell de Montjuic at the top of the mountain - again fabulous views over the sea. On the way back down the pods allow you to exit at Mirador, a peaceful garden with views, or continue back down to the main terminus. Really worth taking time to do.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 May 2023
- CarTRVLRCarlisle, Massachusetts180 contributionsNice view but the ride is short...It's a good thing to do if you're in the area but there are other places to get a great view. The queue/wait was reasonable (not sure how it would be in the height of tourist season) but the price was a bit steep for the short ride. For the price, you can go to Hotel La Florida and get some tapas and drinks and get an even better view--and you can stay a bit. Montjuic itself is worth a visit, but you don't necessarily have to ride the teleferic.Visited May 2023Written 22 May 2023
- AccessTravel2014Cavan, Ireland605 contributionsAccessibility at Telefèric de Montjuïc, BarcelonaMontjuïc cable cars are entirely wheelchair accessible. These cable cars which are on a continuous loop can be paused, providing extra time for those with reduced mobility to board safely. The current folding seats allow additional space for wheelchair users and mobility scooters. Although Montjuïc Castle is quite difficult to wheel around due to large cobblestones, it’s overall an enjoyable experience taking in panoramic views of Barcelona and surrounding areas.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 June 2023
- NinaSolihull, United Kingdom130 contributionsDefinitely worth itA must-do experience in Barcelona. There was a short queue when we visited on a Wednesday midafternoon. We bought a one way ticket to the top so we were able to walk down the hill which was a good decision in my opinion as it was lovely to walk through the park.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 July 2023
- xmasjonesLondon, United Kingdom295 contributionsGood views of cityShort queue which would probably go faster if there was someone manning the cars as most going half empty. We had a whole car to ourselves on way up but on way down gets busy and those who have walked half way down May struggle to find space. Paid €18 for 2 persons for round trip. Not much to see at castle which is a separate entry price but nice views. Maybe more to see if you walk downVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2023
- Laura102 contributionsMust do attraction in Barcelona!A fairly large queue to get onto the cable cars. Took about 10 minutes to get to the desk to pay. Didn’t matter if you’d brought a ticket already, everyone went through the same entrance. Paid €20 for 2 x one way tickets to the top (there are 3 different stops in total). The views are amazing and there is no way most could walk at the way up the hill. No one is manning people getting onto the cable car so we were lucky to be with just another family of 3. It is fairly high for those who don’t like heights. Definitely a must!Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 July 2023
- moondial2013Edinburgh, United Kingdom120 contributionsNo clear views at the topI was only in Barcelona for a day and a half and did a bus tour. One of the stops was Montjuïc and the view that I saw for a few seconds was amazing and I had to go back to see it properly. I saw the Montjuïc Cable Car and thought it was a no brainer so bought a ticket online and got on the L3 Metro, got off at Paral-El and took the funicular to the Cable car station. There was a queue at 5:30pm and buying a ticket online before didn’t allow me to queue jump, although it was cheaper. As an amateur photographer, I was really excited for this and the views on the cable car itself were amazing, I was looking forward to having some views at the top to stare at, take photos and simply enjoy. When we got to the top, the views were blocked by trees; ok I thought, there must be a better view point somewhere. I walked around the Castle and got a great view of the port, not very exciting. I then walked down the path, along a bit, down a bit but there was no view point. There were just a few gaps in trees. I considered going into the castle but it was further expense and I got the cable car back down disappointed. If you like castles, ports and the excitement of cable cars, feel free to do this. If you want the view, take the bus tour and get off at the Montjuïc stop, you won’t regret it.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 July 2023
- Tess SOslo, Norway54 contributionsWonderful view of the city - it’s a must!!The cable car costs 15 euros roundtrip. The route offers an amazing view of Barcelona and the ocean. When you get to the top you can visit the castle and walk around the grounds. Since it’s on a hill the view is spectacular. You can visit the museum inside the castle for free after 15.00 (3 pm).Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 July 2023

The cable cars provide an amazing view of Barcelona and there are several stop off points for you to get out and explore the park. This is good value for money compared to many of the tourist attractions in Barcelona. If you buy one of the travel cards for the metro this will allow you access to the line which takes you right to Parc de Montjuic. If you try and walk from Paral-let it’s a very hilly walk with loads of steps so beware!!

Absolutely loved this cable car journey. The views are out of this world.
€16 adult ticket to go up to the castle and back down.
Had a walk around the top and then travelled back down.
Only wish, is that there could be a cafe up at the top. Or at least benches/seating.
Would be wonderful to sit with a coffee and enjoy the views and the weather.

Pretty telefrique with two stops. The castle stop was breath taking with amazing views. It is not stroller friendly due to the stones at the top which makes the ride tough. Also could’ve been more convenient if there was a cafe near the castle.
A picture with the flag of Catalonia was the highlight.

The views from the cable car are very pretty, and it's a very convenient way to get up to Montjuic. From the bottom station we walked down to the city center

The cable car is a must if you wish to see Barcelona from above. When you get off the cable car there is a cafe/restaurant called Salts. Their terrace provides amazing views over the city and is a great place to take photos. It also over looks the olympic swimming & diving pools. You can grab a beer and food. The castle at the top is impressive and if you walk behind the castle there are steps down to the main road where you can walk to the harbour and beach.

Short but sweet - this ride up the mountain was reached after quite a long wait in the queue - I decided to gop up on the cablecar then walk down which was very much the best thing to do - the downward paths are easy to follow and give more time to enjoy the excellent views over the city. from the top it can be appreciated how much Sagrada Familia is developing and - when the final central tower is completed in a few years - it will be awasome.

We hiked up and all around the fortress at the top. Good views from the trail at the base of the fortress. Nice picnic area among shady pines nearby. We wished we had saved our money and walked back down. The walk is neither long nor difficult for able-bodied people and next time I would save my money.

Thank you very much for commenting on your experience at the Telefèric de Montjuïc. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your trip to the castle. We recommend that all visitors consult our website for information on the main points of interest that can be enjoyed on Montjuïc hill. From each of the 3 stations you can visit the main cultural interests of Montjuïc hill such as the Fundació Miró, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, the Poble Espanyol or the Museu Etnològic. You can also visit the Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens, one of the most important in Europe. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to be able to provide you with a better service in the near future. Best regards.

Do you have to get off at the stops or is it possible to do a round trip without getting off?
Thanks in advance.

Hello.
Cable Car runs on a continuous loop. Our destination was the Castle, so we got off.
Not sure whether you can stay on and just return to the originating Station. There is no intermediate Stop. Only Start & Finish ones.
But if you do have to alight, you can just walk around to the entrance, have your ticket checked. And away you go on your return trip.
Enjoy.

Hello. Barcelona card(not hola) includes -2€ at montjuic teleferic. Is it possible to buy online the tickets with the reduction in advance or I have to purchase them at the ticket office only? Also, on March are there long queues?

How much is it to travel up to the mountain via cable car? Apologies, I know it's probably in the thread somewhere.

I think we paid around 12 euros for a return trip. It was worth it.
Do you have to book in advance or can you pay at this location?

Depends on how many cruise ships are in. When we visited there were 6 and it took us about 45 mins to get tickets.
How do you get there from the tourist attractions in the centre of Barcelona?. Only visiting for 1 day

We had a rail and bus passAnd we took the rail to the Finny killer. Definite killer was included with the pass. The gondola cost extra.
How do you get to the cable car station from the centre of Barcelona (main tourist attractions) as only in Barcelona for 1 day (cruise excursion)
John B
Stockton-on-Tees, UK402 contributions
A lot depends on where your ship is moored. Assuming it is somewhere in the Port near the Christopher Columbus statue near the bottom of La Rambla, (or you can get a blue Cruise Shuttle Bus to the statue) I would walk from the Port up Av del Paral-lel to the Paral-lel Metro station (about 5-10minutes), where you can get on the Montjuic Funicular railway, which will take you up to the bottom cable car station. If you have a Barcelona travel card (or one of the other multi- use transport cards) you can use it on the funicular but not the cable car. I recommend booking the cable car in advance as it might be busy and you won’t want to walk up to the castle or stand in a queue on a hot day! Great views from the castle out to sea and over the city. If you are not setting off from the port, use the Metro or a bus to Paral-lel Metro (Lines L2 or L3)

Is the Teleferic included in the Hola Barcelona pass? It says the Funicular is, but what about the cable car?
maitaimike2015
Laguna Hills, CA261 contributions
Profco,
The Hola Pass does not include the Teleferic de Montjuic. I believe it is considered a tourist attraction, as opposed to public transportation, considering the city bus line (TMB) stops at the top and they do take the Hola Pass. Because the Hola pass allows multiple uses for days valid, plan your visits and select the routes that work best.
Happy travels,
Maitaimike2015
