The archaeological site known as the Ciutat del Born; the permanent exhibition on the Barcelona of the year 1700; the exhibition on the Siege of 1714, which will remain at the centre throughout the tricentenary of those events; the programme of regular arts and cultural events held at the centre , the series of lectures, interviews and talks, as well as other one-off activities hosted by the venue, all share a common purpose – to preserve the memory of our history in an entertaining, diverse and accessible way. Epic, exciting, thought-provoking, memorable, unique, open, inclusive, dynamic, integrated, popular and creative – these are just some of the adjectives that define the experience of entering El Born Centre de Cultura i Memoria, whether it be simply passing through on your way somewhere else or staying for a longer visit, attending a regular or a one-off event or really exploring this country's history in depth. One will never experience two identical visits to El Born, a space that faithfully records past events and helps to give global recognition to the history of the Catalan nation. Outside this was a large wrought iron building that caught our eyes as we headed to lunch nearby. We decided to go inside to pace ourselves after a big meal.
To enter was free but one can pay for a guided tour to down into the excavation area and learn more details about the history of both the old market building and the ruins underneath. There also was a fee to see some of the recovered artifacts on display in a room at one corner.
I liked that there was a lot of signage and flyers all around that detailed, in multiple languages, the history and background.
Worth a stop if in the area. There was a lot of room to add more exhibits or things to see if they want to attract more visitors.

I met it after the archaeological process of the labyrinth and I find it super interesting, it is very well maintained and you can see it from above, and in the summer there are guided night tours, I couldn't do it but I wanted to.
The other interesting thing is that up on the second level is the complete collection of all the pieces that were found in the discovery of the labyrinth and that gives traceability to the story.
I am into cultural places and if there is archeology it amazes me, I recommend it as an interesting cultural visit that will not take up so much of your time

This is a really neat place and a big “great job” to the city for having a place like this to preserve history. Well worth a stop if you’re passing by.
There is a large area of uncovered Roman ruins as well as a museum, all indoors. Spend 15 minutes or ah hour - your choice!

This was Barcelona’s very first covered metal market and was built in place of the old, shabby but fairly efficient market. They realised shortly after building this one and the Mercat St Antoni that they might have gone overboard on the size. So cut back a bit after that. It was huge. The most fascinating thing though was the 16th and 17th century ruins that sit in what would be the basement (if it had a floor that is). There is a lot information about the history of the period and the houses beneath our feet - fascinating place to visit.

This is a cool building which houses various relics from Catalonia’s history.
There are floors and artefacts dating back well over 100 years in a large undercover space.
It is free to enter but tour guides are available for a fee.

We found ourselves by chance in this archaeological site, where there are ruins from around 1700. The visit is free, and within walking distance you can reach the main park of the city. So you can easily pass by and take a tour. Advise

An old iron and glass market building that has excavated extensive medieval remains from before 1700. The narrow streets, lanes and buildings are all there. History panels clarify the great division between Catalunya and the rest of Spain. there are guided tours and even a children's exploratory dig site. Interesting for sure and free.

I found this center boring and poorly organized. The information is not in chronological order and the app needs some serious work. It’s free so that’s good, but I’d skip unless already in the neighborhood.

We spent over an hour here looking at all of the displays. They have converted an old covered food market into an archeological dig, a display of the history of this neighborhood, plus room for temporary art and cultural expos. I learned a lot about city history. Everything was fully described for a self-guided tour.

The ruins were amazing to see. The artisans selling their goods in the market were fairly priced and had beautiful items. There is currently an absolutely fascinating exhibit about censorship under Franco with a huge display of record album covers that were changed because they were deemed inappropriate. You see both the before and after. Very cool. The teenagers loved it!
