- Katie BurgessTherfield, United Kingdom11 contributionsBeautiful Views!!The views you got from here were absolutly incredible! Its a shame there is the amusment park infront of it and it does get in the way of some photos. Make sure you have a good wander around to see different areas of Barcelona. We got the L7 metro line to Av. Tibidabo and then walked to the funnicular station which was about 25 minutes. The funnicular on the way up was not worth the ride, which I think was €12 each return for adults, the views were better at the top so I'd suggest getting an uber or taxi up if there are several of you as its probably cheaper and you're not missing out on anything. Beautiful views and worth the travel time. The church itself is free to go in but you do have to ay if you want to go up to th top.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 January 2024
- SteviefullKidderminster, United Kingdom2,066 contributionsA Fantastic Church with A Great ViewA thirty minute taxi drive to right by the church seemed like a sensible way to start the trip, that was until it came time to leave when trying to buy a one way ticket down on the funicular was a nightmare of queueing and miscommunication. Anyway, the church inside is impressive with the usual mix of vaulted ceilings, impressive stained glass and frescos. The real highlight though is up on the roof and the view for miles out across the city and the surrounding forests. A great place to visit if you have exhausted the city centre itself and have young kids that would enjoy the pretty basic amusement park outside the church, if you are sensible and left the kids at home just enjoy the views.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 April 2024
- Dilly4472Spilsby, United Kingdom899 contributionsInteresting situationClimbed Tibidabo Hill out of Barcelona City on foot through woodland paths and up several steep sections. An enjoyable hike of about 3 miles from the outskirts of the city. Extraordinary to see this church at the top of the hill surrounded by an amusement park!!! Great views of the city and coast. Inside the Basilica is peaceful and serene with lovely stained glass windowsVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 April 2024
- Steve_of_N21London, United Kingdom3,377 contributionsDon’t come here just for the church. It’s good but the views of Barcelona is the real star.Normally I would say don’t bother with the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor de Jesús (Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) as internally it’s a pretty average church compared to others in Barcelona. But much of its attraction comes from its privileged location on one of the highest peaks in the city, from which you get truly excellent views. But once you’ve made it up here you might as well take a look at the inside of the church, which oddly is on two levels. The ground level has some impressive frescos and stained glass windows, then the upper level once you climb the steps is more about the columns to the roof space but still has some nice statues and features. However, it’s the views from here that really win the day.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 June 2024
- FidelscastrolManila, Philippines883 contributionsBuena Vista ClubWorth navigating your way here and best arriving by funicular. Get a ticket to use the lift which will take you to the highest point where the views are fabulous. The theme park was closed so less screeching kids. Inside the church it’s impressive. I took the 111 bus up to the top which offers some amazing views of Barcelona as it goes up the mountain. From the viewpoint of the temple, you can see the city on one side of the mountain and then miles of forest on the other side! However the temple itself is not much to speak of. The altar is beautiful but if you've been to Sagrada Familia or the monastery of Montserrat then it doesnt even hold a candle to them.

Beautiful building, didn't go inside but the outside is something to see. Worth a visit, just for the views from here. We purchased 2 tickets for e22 which was used on the metro from La Rambla to funicular then 111 bus to here great value. :)

Go. You probably just paid $36 for Sagrada Familia and/or $47 for the Cathedral of Barcelona. This one is free AND you will not find a better view of the city. Period. If you go to Barcelona, you won’t want to miss this.
If you have an all-zone metro card, that gets you all the way there. Get to Catalina Station. Take the S2 to Peu del Funicular (the other one costs money). Your card gets you onto the cable car up the mountain. At the top, exit the building and turn right. You will see a bus stop sign for Bus 111. Your card gets you on that. It takes you directly to the front of the Cathedral. Two levels of the Cathedral are free to entire and the tile work is STUNNINGLY beautiful. If you want to climb to the very top, right to the statue of Jesus, it costs $5 and you have majestic scenic pictures in every direction.
WELL worth the time to get there.

If you go by public transport you need to take the metro to the cable car and then a bus to the Temple. It took longer tha a taxi but much cheaper. The statue of Christ on the top of the temple reminded me of Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

The journey to Tibidabo is already very beautiful. The church itself is impressive from the outside, but the inside is rather plain for a basilica. To enjoy the amazing, unrestricted 360 degree view directly under the Jesus statue, you have to pay €5 for the elevator, which I would recommend to everyone, especially in the morning.
One point deducted for the plain basilica and the need for the elevator. I did not visit the amusement park.

This is not the easiest church to get to but you will be rewarded by the most amazing views of Barcelona. You can see the city from a number of high locations, but none are as good as this.
The church itself is worth visiting with grandiose painted ceilings. One unusual feature is to see high above the altar a painting that contained men in suits.

We loved our visit up to Tibidabo! We took the S train out of Barri Gotic, rode the funicular up the mountain, and caught a small bus up to the temple. Then we paid the small fee to ride the elevator up to the observation area and climbed the stairs to the area below the statue of Jesus. The views are amazing and the journey up to the temple felt like an adventure. It was a fun excursion away from the crowds of Barcelona!

Interesting site. shame is, the best parts can only be seen from the outside far away from the site, not in the enclosure when you can use your audio guide. Huge rip off price min 36 EUR. I wish the pope and his mega rich vatican bank could do something positive and not just rip people off for, god knows what purpose.......Fleece tourists, new religion of the European South????

It can be reached by funicular and is adjacent to the amusement park. Be careful when you buy the ticket to specify only for the Templo. The church inside is a bit shabby and offers a spectacular view of the city. With an additional ticket costing €5 per person, it is possible to climb to the top of the church. In the area below there are bars where you can have something to eat, even if the prices are slightly higher than normal.

Buongiorno vorrei sapere quanti gradini ci sono per raggiungere il Tempio del Sacro Cuore e eventualmente c'e' un ascensore?grazie

I've seen many pictures OF THE exterior of the church that were taken from a higher angle. Does anyone know where that location is? Are they taken from the amusement park or something?
Written 25 May 2019
Thanks everyone! After extensive research, I found that there is a ride next to the amusement park (panaramic area). The ride is called "Talaia", which takes you 550 above sea level. From there you can take a really nice picture of the church.

Hello! I will be traveling to Barcelona Feb 3-8 and would like to visit the Templo del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. I will be staying near Las Ramblas. How would I got about get there? I thought I could take the bus from Placa de Catalynya, but it only runs when the amusement park is open. train? taxi?
Written 22 January 2019
There is a regular bus service up there even when the amusement park is closed. The number of the bus service is 111. Please note that the church isn't open to visitors until 11 am. I was lucky enough to be staying next door, so visited quite frequently during my 5 day stay.

Hi,
Where can I buy tickets to visit the terrace ? I am unable to find any website that sells them.
Thanks
Written 28 May 2018
The terrace is free to visit there is a charge if you want to go up the church tower, just buy that on the day.
There is a charge for the funicular railway and tram or bus that you have to use to get to the top of the hill where the terrace is situated.

Muchas gracias!

Hi, we went by car but you can take the bus T2A from Placa Catalunya, Barcelona's main square up to Tibidabo hill where the church is located.
