Neighbourhood: Barrio Gòtico (Barri Gòtic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.

Such an underrated tourist attraction. Gorgeous and far cheaper than larger tourist sites like Sagrida Familia. Best bit is climbing the bell tower which was a highlight of the trip - offering the most beautiful panoramic views.

Dominating the Placa it’s a supreme Gothic edifice. A marvellous main façade has superb stone work particularly around the entrance way.

Stepping in is awe inspiring. With a superlative vista from the rear along the nave to the altar, it is a marvellous experience just standing and admiring.

Soaring columns reach for the lovely vaulted ceiling in stone. Stained glass windows bring a glowing light inwards.

A great Rose Window is one of the highlights. Numerous exquisite holy items are to be seen in the Treasury, including a monstrance and chalices.

This church was at the end of the street where we stayed, so we went in for a short visit. From the outside it wasn't much to look at from our end, but inside was quite a surprise.

Inside, the church has beautiful stained glass windows and different sections with vaulted ceilings and little chapels between the pillars.

Located within the Plaza del Pi (Pine Tree square) is a church with a fairly bland facade, However, once inside it is a stunning church with one of the largest stained glass Rose windows in the world. They were setting up for a concert and had hundreds of candles all over the altar - beautiful.

The current Gothic cathedral was built between 1319-1320 and 1391. The cathedral was originally built in the Catalan Gothic style. The building survived two earthquakes in 1373 and 1428, which resulted in damage. The cathedral has been restored several times.
In 1928, Pope Pius XI awarded the Church of Santa Maria del Pi the title of Papal Minor Basilica. During the Civil War in 1936, the cathedral was destroyed and later restored.

This is a serene place. It is big, rustic, and simple, but not less beautiful. The only thing we did not like is that all of the chapels look like jail cells, and that is very unwelcoming. At least open the doors and cord them off so people don’t go in, but open the “cell doors”. A house of God should not have bars and padlocks and chains. The staff is most welcoming and helpful. We purchased tickets on site and paid with a credit card. There is a little museum and a crypt to see here. Don’t miss it.

You’ll find far fewer tourists than the Cathedral of Barcelona, and a much quieter environment than La Sagrada Familia. This beautiful interior with stunning stained glass was completed in 1453, but the foundation dates to 1319, and the cemetery dates to 1074! Come here if you want to escape the crowds and enjoy a quiet church. It might just be my favorite in all of Barcelona!

I'm giving it 5 stars - but only for the giants

Believe me, it is easy to miss these giants. You have to go inside and then turn left, easy to miss but great to look at

Very nice Basilica near to La Ramblas. Recommended to take some time to visit if you are in La Ramblas but can skip if you need to make efforts to go there.
