We visited the Casa Marti Els Quatre Gats mainly as a bucket list tick off due to its rich history, charming character and great atmosphere which it had. The down side was the extremely poor service of our sour-faced waitress who disappeared before we even completed our order. We didn't make a fuss or complain as we were only there... More

We were recommended this restaurant and it's really a great atmosphere. Rich history and creative food especially the deserts. We enjoyed eating here very much.

The cold wintry afternoon in Barcelona was cured by a visit to Els Quatre Gats with a Hot Chocolate with croissants (churros not available). The chocolate was marvelously unadulterated. The place oozed with warmth and comfort and a veritable feast for the eyes with artworks in every wall and corner adding more character to the place and not daunting. This... More

This place is the very definition of a tourist trap. I'm embarrassed to see it mentioned in the Daily Telegraph - clearly he's not from Barcelona! No Spaniard would ever go here, none in sight on my visit- only Americans, Japanese and idiots like me. It is cramped (could not get up from my seat without moving the table next... More

This was our third visit to the restaurant over a long period of time ( about 20 yrs) - the first visit was exquisite, the second was ok but not so good, the most recent (25th Feb) was quite awful. The ambience is superb and of course the place has amazing historic connections but they seem to have forgotten the... More

It is a must-visit place if you like Picasso, Gaudi, and other local artists. We went there in the middle of the afternoon. We were not hungry and we did have our dinner plan. So we sat down, ordered beers as Pablo used to do in 1900. The front is more like a bistro, spacious dining room is in the... More

The place is very special and this is a full point, you can fell the history in the air, on Saturday you have a live piano adding a lot. 4-5 dishes per type of plate, not cheap but very good. The jewel of the Crown was the 1kg filet done on a stone, good for 2-3 people. Service was exquisite,... More

Just returned from a memorable visit to the 4Cats! It won't be my last! Already booked again for a few days time. The dining room takes you right back in time to when the Young Picasso held his first exhibition here in this very room. I wish I had been there I might have bought something! Apart from that and... So we visited els quatre gats at lunch time and were met by Roberto a friendly, funny gentleman who took us through the menu and gave us personal recommendations as to what was lovely to eat, the food was excellent and the service was again excellent, I would recommend this place to everyone who visits Barcelona..

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.
