Visited the Olympic stadium and I am really impress that it is still as beautiful as in 1992 when I first visited the stadium minus the vandalism of the foot prints of some of the famous athletes which was stolen or removed by criminals outside the front entrance. It is worth visiting as there other attractions nearby including The National... More

the stadium is a short walk from the Plaza d'Espana and the art gallery - and is worth making the effort. The stadium still has an atmosphere which brings back many memories. you can also get a good cup of coffee too. Look out for the footprints of your athletic heroes on the pavement outside

This was the main venue for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. It is spectacularly placed on the top of Montjuic, but the stadium itself is smaller and less grand than I had expected. To one side, you can see the cauldron where the Olympic flame burned and the communications tower is an interesting sculptural feature. When we were there,... More

I have long been fascinated with the olympics and the first games I remember were in Barcelona in 1992, therefore it was fantastic to be able to visit (for free) the stadium and surrounding areas. Very impressive.

Seemed smaller than I imagined, but I think some seats may have been removed. It is a shame that the big orange screen flickers. It is great that it is still accessible and that the surrounding area is being well maintained.

I went, not expecting much (someone had told me you couldn't enter but that turned out to not be true). It was worth it to me to see where part of the Olympics took place, see the torch, etc. There's some kind of sport camp that happens in there nowadays as well.

This was a visit on an off chance. The City is partly shut down on Mondays, and that includes the stunning fountains from the base of Las Ramblas up to the Museum. So....keep going, up to the Olympic park! The stadium is now run by a sport camp (poorly attended on the day we were there...you could have a couple... More

It's a stadium. Nothing fancy or iconic, I was under impressed and quite frankly annoyed that this was a stop on my tour. With all the history and culture in Barcelona, I would not waste my time seeing this unless you are super into Olympic history.

Very nice open area with an interesting history. We did not take a tour and spent maybe 30 minutes taking pictures and walking around before going to the art museum.

I have been informed it was originally built in 1927 for the 1929 International Exposition and Barcelona's bid for the 1936 Summer Olympics (Awarded to Berlin for those interested). It was renovated in 1989 to be the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics. It's located in the Anella Olímpica, in Montjuïc, a large hill to the southwest of Barcelona... More

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
