Would highly recommend a day at the beach here it's clean and cheerful as you would expect Barcelona to be. Hire the bikes opposite for 15euros an hour and cruise up and down it was a must for the kids

We were meeting a friend for lunch at a restaurant on this beach. After lunch, we took a walk up and down the concrete pavements along the back of the beach. It is a long beach, from where we were, we can see the sail shape Westin Hotel in the distance seemingly part of the beac front. We didn't walk... More

If you are like me and can't miss a chance to swim this place is mandatory. The metro station is 10/15 minutes walk away from the beach. The only disadvantage is people trying to sell things. No I don't want a massage, a mojito, a paréo, a tattoo... be aware that staying under the beach umbrella is 10€!! Best to... More

Definitely check out this beachy part of Barcelona. Lots of seafood restaurants, excellent beach, and lots of people! It was too cold to get in the water but we had a blast just enjoying the views and the breeze

We went to the beach via the Barcelona Segway Tours. It was overcast and chilly the day that we went there. This is a tourist sport for sure but the beach is really clean, the water looked very clear and it had nice waves. It looks like Barcelona has spent a lot of resources in making this area very attractive... More

We were able to walk to the beach from our hotel. It was very active even though it was not hot enough to go into the water. There were people in the water as well as playing volleyball on the beach. It was a very popular destination.

I'm used to the beaches in Southern California, so Barceloneta Beach wasn't too amazing to me. I liked that there were no real waves since it faces south into the Mediterranean Sea so it seemed safer for children. However, the sandy area was fairly small and the wind just blew sand into everyone's eyes. Lots of food, though! Also free... More

Barcelona has both worlds. The beaches and the city. This small beach easily accessible outside La Rambles, is a must see. Very crowded, safe, places to eat and drink nearby. You can easily take the Metro or walk to Barceloneta if you like to walk.

We couldn't spend much time here as we were on an organised bus tour, but the beach looks like a nice place to chill out, albeit a very popular one. Apparently, Barcelona actually didn't have its own beach, so they shipped this one in from the Sahara!

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
