The replica of Don Juan's flag ship was excellent as were some other ship displays and picture galleries. However, there was just a feeling that something was missing. The entrance price was fair and there was a senior's discount. If you look up at the great beams, it is not hard to imagine its days as a great shipyard. Yes,... More

The is a huge full size replica of the Royal Flagship of the battle of Lepanto. Anyone into Naval activities or boating would enjoy exhibits

We were full of expectations due to the great reviews, but were a bit disappointed. The price is fair if not very cheap, and some of the ships interesting, as are some of the short films projected on the 'containers' explaining the history of sea transport, maps, piracy and more. But on the whole, not a major revelation.

This museum's essence is the fact that it has full scale replica of the Juan de Austria, a war galley that fought against the Turks in 1571. The rest of the museum is missing some exhibits, and some exhibits need to be weeded out. The 5 euro admission charge was well spent to see the galley.

A fun museum good for children of all ages. Pirates galore and even a Brazilian jangada. There is a restaurant with seating inside or in a lovely outdoor patio with a small fountain with turtles that keep small children busy.

Museu Maritim Maritime Museum Barcelona This is a very interesting place to visit as it has all sorts of maritime vessels including a great big galleon, a reproduction of a sixteenth century galley of the royal ship Admirals of the Juan de Austria from the battle of Lepanto from the 1500's in which the Turkish Armada was defeated. This ship... More

We visited the museum Sunday afternoon and the entrance was free, but we got a ticket with the price of 0 EUR on it :) I was a little disappointed as there was only one ship of real dimensions, the others were only smaller models. The exposition I liked best was the mechanical toys related to maritime topic.

A huge building, with an interesting history of its own, at the bottom of the Ramblas, recently renovated. We went Sunday after 3 when it becomes free admission. No, there was not a huge crowd, so we thoroughly enjoyed our visit through a piece of maritime history.

Visited this place with my 3-year-old toddler. He's only vaguely interested in boats, but the best part is the museum is the former shipyard. With soaring roof and huge open spaces, the kids can run around like banshees and not annoy other visitors. Great place to burn off some energy indoors (and see some shipbuilding history at the same time).

A good cross section of naval history located in a most impressive well renovated building adjacent to the seafront. Easily accessible and well worth a visit. The highlight for me was a massive "galleon" totally refurbished.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
