Neighbourhood: Barrio Gòtico (Barri Gòtic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.

One of the most beautiful architectual buildings in Barcelona. The offices and rooms inside are amazing. Helpful guides in the main areas tell the history of the building and its evolution. Great activity for an hour or two Sun AM while much of the city is closed.

Really enjoyed the beauties of the building as well as the square lots located at. Definitely brings a lot of charm to the Gothic Quarters!

We had not planned on visiting this building. However, when we arrived, there were very few tourists going in. You arrive in the Square but you need to go around the corner to the right to access the building. There is no admission fee. Today is Sunday and we were able to go in without a problem. Photography is allowed. You will see a lovely brass sculpture from the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games (see below), other sculptures, many older statues and the actual meeting room for City Council. Washrooms are available.
The information desk will provide you with a lovely, free brochure.

Sitting opposite the Generalitat building on Plaça St JAUME. Impressive white stone buildings. Currently bedecked with free our political prisoners slogans and yellow ribbons because of the independence referendum and subsequent political trial

City Hall (Casa de la Ciutat / Ayuntamiento) is a very impressive building. And it should be so as it houses one of the city's most significant institutions, the local government. Its gothic architecture is magnificent. It stands on historic ground as well. Placa Sant Jaume is the site of the ancient Marketplace of the city, which in Roman times was called the Forum. On this site today stands the City Hall on one side and on the opposite side of the square is Catalunya's Government building. Extremely beautiful buildings! They are worth checking out.

Lovely building on a thoroughfare between the city. Seat of government and a proud looking building for the area.

For architectural gems Placa Sant Jaume is a great square to check out on any holiday to Barcelona your planning, some great buildings in this square including City Hall ( Casa De La Ciutat ).
This is a wonderful building built in the very evocative Neo Classical style of architecture, I think this building may be free to enter but on our resent holiday it was most definitely not open to the public, there was a peaceful gathering of people demonstrating for independence for Catalunya.
The building makes for some great photographic opportunities and is most definitely well worth checking out.
Way to locate on Placa De Jaume.

This is an impressive building on Plaça de Sant Jaume. Casa de la Ciutat was originally built in the 14th century. The building sits across the square from Palau del Parlament de Catalunya. A benefit of our visit to Barcelona has been to gain a better understanding of and appreciation for the history of Barcelona and Catalonia. So it was good to visit Plaça de Sant Jaume to see the base of local and Catalonia government and appreciate the beautiful historic buildings in which they reside.

This city hall flanks one side of the square Placa de Sant Jaume. This ancient building is well preserved, beautiful facade, with nice sculptures and flags right at the top. Drop by to take some nice photos in this Gothic Quarter.

Stumbled across this on a Sunday morning whilst waiting for our departure time from the city. Entrance was free on Sunday morning up to 1330 I think so popped in and there were some really nice rooms and things to look at. Worth a visit but only when free I think and not on the top of your list of things that should be visited whilst in the city.
