Monterrsat is a truly breathtaking place to visit--the history, the architecture and the location perched on a mountain side!!! We booked a day tour through Viator and it was great!!! Our guide, Pao, was enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and gave insight into many parts of Catalonian life. He picked us up in front of a hotel in Barcelona then took us via subway train on a ride through countryside and into the mountains and to Monterrsat. From the rail station we then took a cable car ride UP to the monestery. Pao had perfect timing in getting train seats, front of the line to the cable car and then touring the Monestery. He was sure to get us the key locations outside , showed us the oldest outdoor market where he had arranged for us to taste local cheeses and other items and then took us to the cafeteria for lunch. From there we moved inside where we witnessed a Mass and performance by the Boy's Choir. It would be easy to miss out on many of these things if you were on your own, but the price of this personal guided tour was very reasonable and we did not waste time standing in lines, which can easily eat up hours of visiting time. Our guide took us back to the location in the city where he picked us up in the morning---perfectly safe, and with his great smile. I highly recommend this tour and Pao as a guide. Pao is a guide we highly recommend

The day was balanced by the serene monastery with so much peace and so much history. Next came the wine tasting that was fun and light. An absolutely stunning sight!

Amazing views! This was our favorite thing we did while in Barcelona. We grew tired of the crowded streets and Gaudi stuff so opted to try out something different and we were pleasantly surprised. Marta is a fabulous tour guide and the winery is amazing!

We purchased 4 tickets for the monserrat tour and were given clear instruction on the meeting point and the time. But when we arranged a taxi for the morning we were told we could not get to the meeting point as the annual Barcelona Marathon was taking place and the streets were closed. After phoning and explaining the situation we were told that the meeting point was changed. None of this was told to us when purchasing the ticket and this information was readily available at the time of purchase this caused a great panic which could have been avoided if the staff were trained properly and the right information was given at the right time. Luckily i managed to do my own mini marathon as a person in my party has a disability i ran to 2 different information desks , one couldn't help as WiFi had gone down. After gaining the correct information (which should have been given at the time of purchase which was 24 hours before hand) then the party was greeted by a very rude member of staff (gemma) who made us wait standing outside the bus even though we had a disabled person, She then let people on to the bus and got in herself leaving us outside. It was only because i asked for my uncle to be seated we were told that we could could sit, this information was given from her seated position on the air conditioned bus to us outside the bus in the warm day. She didn't even check our tickets or care that we had a disabled passenger. Horrible staff and poor organisation. The trip it's self was fine and the monestary was as expected i would advise making your own way unless your fine with a lack lustre organized tour by barcelone touristic. Wouldn't use them again.
