About
The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

Neighbourhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

- Josh BCanada13 contributionsExcellently Curated Museum is Barcelona’s BestBeautiful collection, temporary exhibits, and building. The best art museum in Barcelona and the one you must see if only visiting one. Even non art enthusiasts should come here if just to see the important Picasso pieces for the historical and local significance. Not too large either - 1.5 hours if you go quickly or closer to 2.5/3 hours and you’ve seen everything with time to linger on your favourite pieces.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2023
- Global TripsLondon, United Kingdom49 contributionsVisit Museo Picasso to see some of the most iconic pieces of work within the last centuryIt was very average. It’s beautiful seeing such an iconic artist’s work. Recognising the famous works and learning about new ones was interesting. However, it wasn’t completely to my taste and that is just down to personal preference. However, I would definitely advise giving it a visit if you can.Visited July 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 5 April 2023

We saw several of his very early works and his series of paintings that Picasso painted in 1957 by performing a comprehensive analysis of Velazquez Las Meninas. Very interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The museum is just the right size too - not too much to handle in a few hours.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2023

A she flowed through the galleries of mature and fine works then encountered Picasso's doodles, sketches, and small studies next to finished works, we let the museum open our daughter's eyes. Oh, and it opened ours as well. This was one fine day.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2023

He is so well-rounded in art. His passion and soul speak as you see each painting and image he's created. Simply a work of ART!Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 18 April 2023
- MariaS0rayaGreece466 contributionsCelebrating Picasso 1973-2023.The Picasso Museum is one of the most popular museums in Barcelona. It contains lesser-known works of Picasso organized in chronological order (if you’re expecting Picasso’s big-hitters, you might be disappointed). Highlights of the museum collection "Las Meninas" series and "Science and Charity". It deserves a visit... 2023 is the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso with exhibitions in numerous museums throughout Spain. Book tickets in advance online. - gringottsgoblin369 contributionsQuite hard to find but worth the effortThis location like some in Barcelona is quite tricky to find being down a very narrow medieval street. It’s worth the effort as it is beautifully presented and curated. Each room allows groups of people to review the work in some degree of comfort without blocking or being bustled through. Ie I found it quite relaxed. The lay out despite being in an old rambling building is pretty clear. This is very interesting as a museum as it houses a lifelong collection of Picasso’s work from his very early works to the later ones and it’s an interesting thing to see his journey and art develop. Quite fascinating actually. I think you need at least an hour and more likely two to see this place. There are lots of guided paid tours but honestly if you know a little about the man the descriptions are pretty good and one can self guide in my opinion.Visited May 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2023

All the art work is laid out to avoid crowd build ups and feeling rushed. There is a lot more to see than first expected which gives great value for money. Overall a great recommendation while staying in the city.Visited April 2023Written 29 April 2023

- Sharat SDubai, United Arab Emirates7 contributionsFantastic experience! We are very glad we chose the private tour option and our guide, Fede, was fantastic. He gave us fresh insights on Picasso’s life and works and he did so with authoritatively and with passion. He provided comprehensive and well informed answers to our queries. In addition, he gave us some helpful tips on things to do around the museum. Being a private tour, we had Fede’s undivided attention which added to our enjoyment. The setting of the museum in the old part of Barcelona is unusual but authentic considering that Picasso lived in the vicinity. Overall, a great experience!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 May 2023

Well done museum experience. Large collection of works spanning Picasso's life and particularly his time in Barcelona. We've seen his more famous pieces in other exhibits, but this is certainly the most comprehensive. The audio guide added a great deal of information and context. Well worth the ticket price.

A lovely collection of Picasso's early work. However there is no real information on anything and the only way to get any information is to have paid for the audio guide which was quite disappointing.

Personally, I would place this museum at the bottom of my Malaga to-do list. I waited for about 20 minutes to get a ticket and left my backpack in the cloakroom free of charge. The ticket was 9.5 Euros, the most expensive ticket I paid for while in Malaga. The museum is well-preserved, clean, and organized. There are audio guides available; the museum isn’t that big. I took 20 minutes to tour the building; I thought I had skipped a wing. However, upon exiting the building, I noticed a sign stating they allow visitors to enter up to 20 minutes before closing time. That tells me an average visit is 20 minutes. Just for comparison, Alcazaba takes easily 1 hour to tour without an audio guide, and the ticket is 3.5 Euros, and on Sunday afternoons, it is free. All other main tourist sites are cheaper and more historical than the Picasso Museum. If you prioritize due to time, I would prioritize other sites/museums.
Tip:Compared to the rest of Malaga attractions, this should not be a priority to visit. Especially if traveling with time restrictions.

These are the paintings and sketches of Picasso as a boy/young man. They are technically skilful but cause you to recognize that he became a great artist much later in life.

Hello, does anyone know whether you can take small dogs with you that fit into a bag? I know that pets are generally not allowed, but I hope there might be an exception if they are in a container.
