When we decide to go to Barcelona this popped up as a must see place. We were right and the day was wonderful from the clouds hanging on the peaks to the church and black Madonna. You won't be disappointed.

I wrote a separate review raving about the hiking at Monserat which is highly recommended but the Monserat itself is worth a quick stop as well. The monastery and rest of the small area in the mountains are worth a walk through (1-2 hours) to see all the sights. There may be more significance there for more religious people but I still appreciated the history and architecture. The hiking was definitely the main attraction for me and I spent at least 6 hours doing that.

If you visit Barcelona, Montserrat is the place to be visited for a day trip. It takes a special bus to a train statiom towards Montserrat daily and train goes till the end. But make sure you calculate your timings for coming back if you dont want to spend a night.

Views are spectacular, sunset is a must watch while at montserrat. It also contains a history and a spiritual site for some people.

L'Escolania is the boys choir-in-residence at the Montserrat monastery, one of the most famous children's choirs in the world. Weekdays they perform 'La Salve' in their place of worship at 1pm.

The boys are very skilled singers but be advised the performance lasts a total of 9 minutes. It's too bad that it's so short in its own right, but it also means the entire performance can be distracted by lots of flash photography. If you are in Montserrat at midday, by all means go. The singing is beautiful and the experience moving. But I long for the days before everyone had a digital camera (or at least the days before annoying tourists with selfie sticks).
