The town is beautiful and is famous for having one of the oldest universities in Europe.
The town looks great during the day, but in the evening it is extremely beautiful, especially Plaza mayor.
If visiting Salamanca, would recommend staying a little past sunset.

Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque architecture will be found as you meander the streets of this World Heritage Site. Enter some churches, take in a museum or two and partake of the local cuisine. Your time will disappear quickly.

Beautiful Old Town in tones of yellow and orange. There is a lot to see and photograph. You can easily spend 6 to 7 hours there including time to visit the cathedral and to eat. I can recommend staying one or even two days if you are a slow traveller. Very detailed facades of the buildings.

It is a city that continues to retain its charm after the years have passed. We visited it in August 2005 and it seemed very special to us, now, in October 2023, with a very hot autumn, it still seems like an essential city that brims with culture, gastronomy, heritage, on all 4 sides. The visit to the Jerónimus exhibition (climbing the medieval towers of the cathedrals) is now more complete and, in addition, since 2012, it is possible to visit Scala Coeli (stairway to heaven), climbing the towers of the Clerecía . Now we have been able to enjoy its university atmosphere, since the academic year has already begun. Salamanca is the birthplace of many writers: Luis de Góngora, Calderón de la barca, Miguel de Cervantes, Fray Luis de León, Miguel de Unamuno. We were able to see that it is a city full of life: its streets, its terraces, are busy at any time, especially its Plaza Mayor.

We did a wonderful walking tour of the city, catching many sites starting at the market and through the oldest part of the historic town. There is so much to see, with wonderful old buildings, lovely restaurants and great atmosphere. The old and "new" cathedral are particularly worth a stop.
We will remember our visit each Christmas as we put up the decoration souvenir we picked up.

Salamanca is a wonderful city! My visit took place in the summer and the city was colorful, with lots of flowers and trees! The medieval tone invites to endless walks and at the end of the day you encounter a delicious and varied gastronomic center, with several small restaurants and bars, with tables and chairs exposed to the open air. A super pleasant climate!

This stop over was part of a fact-finding road trip, hence only a short visit.. The architecture is beautiful and the town has everything you need. July is not a good month for this as it was too hot. I will return to explore more of Salamanca in October.

We only had one day to get to know the old part of the city..., and I have to say that we needed at least half a day more. We spent the day very well visiting the University, the Convent of San Esteban, the Unamuno house museum, the Plaza Mayor, the house of the shells, the Roman bridge, etc., we ended up with our tongues hanging out. A fairly large historic center full of monuments and heritage.

One of Spain's most charming towns. Only 2 hrs drive from huge Madrid will reward you with exploring this tranquil charming and beautiful town.
The old town is very compact and very walkable. Outstanding attractions include the old Romanesque 12 c Cathedral and attached to it the new Gothic/Baroque 18c, as well Spain's oldest University (3rd in Europe).
On the southern edge of the Old town is the Roman bridge dating back to 1st century, with two magnificent Monasteries along the way....enjoy

Boa Viagem
