University of Salamanca was founded in 1134, one of the top universities in the world after Paris and Bologna. In July you can participate in celebrations awarding undergraduate degrees. Ancient amphitheater is no longer used, but can be visited: they are special.

The biggest disappointment is feeling cheated during my tour of the university. Ticketing is handled by a machine, but assisted by an attendant. There was the option of 10 Euro that will include entry to the Archbishop's College OR 4 Euro for the regular visit. My friend and I bought the 10 Euro option, just to find out later that... More

The price to literally see four historical classrooms , the red velved clocked carpets in conference room , the ever present , heavily overloaded barroque chapel and the classy library is just too high. The best, the library which is very worth a look. The worst , the central stark and barren cloister. 800 years needs to be maintenanced and... More

Walked around the university for hours. Such incredible buildings side by side. Worth taking your time, strolling and appreciating the incredible architecture.

This university was founded in 1218, and it houses the oldest library in Europe. For 10 euros (5 euros for students) you can tour the original building and take a self-guided tour. Each room included an explanation in English and Spanish. The library can be viewed but cannot be entered; the other rooms can be entered.

Mysterious place full of medieval history. Good to visit with a guide to learn a bit more about the old times curiosities.

The University of Salamanca is the oldest university in Spain, and will be celebrating its 800th birthday in 2018. In the center of the Patio de las Escuelas (Schools Court), you’ll find a sign counting down the days until this big event. Unfortunately the school’s famous façade was covered with scaffolding when we were there. Scaffolding also surrounds other Salamanca... More

A good place to visit the oldest university in Spain. The current famous university wall is under construction, but normally you can look at the wall and the tradition is, if you can find a frog engraved in the wall amongst the other decorations, you will be able to pass the academic year!

You won't stop marveling st the architecture inside and out of the several buildings of all the facultades. I studied here and getting there is a breeze from the plaza mayor (as is almost anything else) and I loved sitting in the older classrooms although the newer buildings still have a vastly different feel than that of university buildings in...
