- CorkJetsetter205 contributionsTake it all inJust looking at the outside of the building is enough to attract one in. The fact that it is open Mondays and the price of admission is only 3 euros carries on the theme. This is a fantastic experience, well worth two hours of anyone’s time. I particularly liked the curated music to go with each exhibition.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023
- thetazziedevilLos Angeles, California9 contributionsDancers of the Casa LisI loved this museum. There was so much to see. Unfortunately they will not let you take pictures so already many of the beautiful pieces have faded from my memory. While the antique doll collection is wildly impressive, I could have spent all day inspecting the wonderful dancer figurines. The dancers were so wonderfully expressive in their costumes and suggestion of movement. They were so beautiful. The museum book does not include any of the best of these so I elected not to purchase one as it would make me wonder why I liked the museum at all. There were some beautiful art pieces in the museum shop but over all, I was a little underwhelmed by the museum shop offerings.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 November 2023
- AL_reviewer_2014Weymouth, United Kingdom189 contributionsIf you like art deco, it's a must!I couldn't decide whether or not to go as all the reviews just mentioned how horrible the people are and dolls. I don't like horrible people or dolls. I then decided it was only €5, so why not. I am delighted I did as I absolutely loved it. Yes, you can't photos, and it is a shame as the place is stunning, but it shouldn't spoil your visit. There are two floors displaying glassware, fans, perfume bottles, jewellery, statues, dolls (LOTS), and furniture. Going to the shop instead, as one reviewer suggested, is ridiculous. The quality of the artefacts in the museum is stunning. The music was lovely, too.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 31 January 2024

No photographs means you can enjoy the exhibits without people standing in front of them taking selfies. If you wwant to take selfiesit's not for you!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2024
- Louise Shepherd10 contributionsCharming Museum - and a Haven for Doll FanaticsLoved this place. I had read a lot of reviews and was braced for rude staff, but on my visit everyone was very civil. There's a terrific coffee bar on site. Great nouveau decor. Amazingly great shop at the finish. Only negative - there are way way too many dolls - but if this is Your Thing, then you will be in heaven.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 May 2024
- Jane M59 contributionsA Great MuseumThis was a great museum. I have never seen so many Art Deco and Art Nouveau objects in one place. A fantastic array of items from pottery to glassware to jewellery and more. Beautiful stained glass throughout. And a great gift shop.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 May 2024
- CHD6265Odiham, United Kingdom463 contributionsCertainly worth including in your itineraryAn amazing old building, nicely restored and put to good use. Some lovely old exhibits ( really liked the clown pics by Celso Lagar) but why not allowed to take pictures? Also, seeing pictures of old balustrade and roof makes me sad. Yes the refurbished items are classy but that old classic design is now lost forever. Don’t miss the cafe / bar at rear for refreshments. Lovely spotVisited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2024

A nice collection from the period apart from the dolls, who are still giving me nightmares. The small sculptures by Dimétre Chiparus of dancers in ivory and bronze were my favourite things. They are really beautiful and I wanted all of them.
Wonderful small cosy cafe with views through the magnificent stained glass windows, neither of us wanted to leave.

Lovely items, interesting, beautiful building. Small but good. Felt it would benefit the visitor if more detailed information could be given for the items on display and also the history of the building. The cafe is perfectly pleasant too.

This was my first-ever time visiting a museum focused on Art Nouveau x Art Deco. As the style is rarely reflected in my current environment, I must say that the premises and the exhibitions (including The Daughters of Jazz exhibition) instilled inspiration like no other. I was simply stunned by the vastness of gorgeous pieces. The environment created in the museum with the lighting of the pieces and the background music was simply fantastic and the experience will definitely stay with me for a long time. The reception and staff were lovely and accommodating.
I warmly recommend going there with people interested in the subject to properly marvel at the miniature statues, art pieces, fans and dolls and to later enjoy a meal or a glass of wine in the terrace. In the event that you do not read Spanish, I warmly recommend using Google Translate's Lens feature to translate the texts and learn of the history. Thank you for the experience, excited to visit again soon!

The Museum is fabulous (both the building itself and the contents) and worth five stars easily. However they have a No Photography policy yet have few books or postcards in the Gift Shop. I spent a considerable time writing notes about particular artists I liked so I can research them when I get home.

You can’t take pictures and there’s little to no art at all, just a couple of paintings, ceramic vases and creepy old dolls. Not worth the 5€ you pay for and definitely not worth it if you can’t even take a picture of the ceiling, which is the best part about the whole museum (if you can call it that). You can take picture of the Mona Lisa at the Louvre but get yelled at if you take a picture of a doll at Casa Lis. Save your money and your time.

This was the surprise of my visit to Salamanca. The architecture and internal design of the building is worth a visit alone. A beautiful monument to the art nouveau movement - its glows at night. In side the museum was an interesting selection fo art nouveau/deco masterpieces and they were amazing as well as slightly weird collection of dolls! There are also touring exhibitions....this is really worth the visit.

I have to say, yes, it’s a beautiful collection of art.
But, on the other hand, from the cold receptionist (she didn’t even acknowledge our greetings or smile at us) to the very rude security guard my experience was very poor. There was no clear sign that we could not take pictures inside the museum. I was taking a picture of the beautiful glass roof and the guard literally shouted at me. Then 5 minutes later this guard takes the PSA to make a very loud announcement saying pictures are prohibited.
I have been to big museums in the world (British Museum, Louvre, Musee D’Orsay, etc) and I never ever was told off from taking pictures on my phone (obviously without flash). Who do they think they are? Seriously?
Then the ladies at the gift shop instead of offering help with the merchandise they were just chatting and not paying attention.
In the end, a horrible experience. I couldn’t enjoy at all my visit because of the rudeness and unfriendliness of the staff.
I really think they must reconsider how they operate and learn from other important museums.

Unexpectedly, my visit coincided with museum day, and although I had already seen it on another occasion, I returned, because there is normally a fee, to be able to see the temporary exhibition on some of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada's costumes. The museum has two floors, and has a lot of interesting rooms.
The best, the central glass dome, a wonderful example of art deco.
The worst thing is that you can't take photos...

If you appreciate Art Deco and Art Nouveau, you can’t fail to enjoy this exquisite collection in an equally exquisite building. Even the windows are ravishing and some of the ceilings are exhibits in themselves. Utterly gorgeous figurines, decorative vases and ornaments, jewellery and more. Beautifully lit and displayed. Not much descriptive text but the beauty of the objects speaks for itself. Additional paintings, furniture, toys and a slightly unsettling collection of French and German dolls. Loved it!

The residence itself is a magnificent work of art nouveau in the heart of old Salamanca. Amazing collection of art works also used as everyday objects: lamps, perfume bottles etc. Presently exhibiting Dali's illustrations from the Divine Comedy by Dante Allighieri. Not to miss the cafe behind the museum for a coffee and a snack. Free entrance on Thrusdays from 11:00 to 2:00 pm. It's right next to the exit of the Cathedral!!!

Driving from Madrid on Sunday morning is there a place nearby Casa Lis to park the car for the day as this will be our first stop in Salamanca.
Written 10 February 2016
Yes there is.
And further to the answer above, here is a more general explanation of the situation you will confront.
You need to approach with care, for an easy visit. Salamanca is a walled city and parking inside the city, though possible is a nightmare because of one way narrow streets.
The city is also high up, higher than the surrounding river which has a road running alongside it, that joins to the ring road at each end, with bridges over to the other side.
The Casa Lis museum and shop have a small courtyard in front of them and face INTO the city, on the road (Calle Gibralta) that comes in to the city from the riverside road.
It is only a short walk from the river at that point.
Its exterior is amazing - over-looking the river and road.
The building drops down three stories with a stained glass 2 tier conservatory facing outwards over the river.
Looking up at it from the river, road and bridges the Cathedral towers above and behind Casa Lis.
It is worth driving to the front of the museum which can be seen from far away and turning onto side roads with P signs in front of the Conservatory, near the river, with street parking - before following signs to the car parks described above.
If successful, you are then faced with only a short walk across the road and up a road line with bollards to enter the city and join the road that the museum is on. All of this can be seen easily and clearly using Google.
The Casa Lis entry on Google has a Google map and a street view that you can follow the above from, step by step. Enjoy your visit. it is an amazing place.

Hola, How long does it take to go through the entire museum. How much time should I plan to spend there?
Written 28 November 2015
Dear Catherine, hello there the museum it is not very big so you could probably check the entire collection in 1 hour or even 1 hour and a half. How ever my advice would be to take like two hours because after you finish you can have a drink at their gorgeous cafetería, Im not sure if the terrace due to the Autumn is still open but that is also one of the best hidden secrets from the museum * Besides the prices are very student budget.
Enjoy your trip to Salamanca.
