The El Greco Museum is also said to have been his home at one time.
It is small, intimate and lovely. I gained such an insight into his talent and work.
The only drawback is that it is not ADA friendly. However, the guides were very attentive to this problem and were of assistance all the time.

The reason that El Greco's work was not appreciated for hundreds of years after his death is that his work was not very good in the context of the times. It is only appreciated now because quality doesn't matter in art; anybody can sell anything. The property is not historic, it's a very nice Spanish house. It has no connection to El Greco, though. There are not very many pieces and the good ones are not El Greco's. And the haphazard COVID restrictions are sophomoric and offer no real protections. Disappointing.

This was a free one-hour walk around apartments full of el Greco. I think it was free because I was there on a Sunday, but not sure. Regardless, there were a number of interesting paintings, and any art lover would enjoy it. El Greco is not my favorite artist but I still would go out of my way to see it again if in toledo

If you read the guide books, they will tell you that this building was not in fact the house inhabited by El Greco, as was sometimes believed. This should not put you off from visiting it, since it contains some real masterpieces of his, not least the set of apostles which line one of the narrow rooms in the building. There are also some very attractive terraced gardens. The house is peaceful and atmospheric.

I love that the museum is constructed like the home he lived in. The collection is small, but the video presentations are very informative and it is exciting to see his work up close. Toledo was an amazing city to visit. The Synagogue next tot he museum is also worth a visit and you can get a discount for buying tickets to both at the same time! Inexpensive parking a short walk away, and several wonderful cafes and restaurants. We spent the whole day in Toledo and it was our favorite stop on this trip.

I love El Greco and this is a great place to see a good selection of his works. The museum is a refurbished 14th century house of the type El Greco might have inhabited. It is very interesting and well presented in English as well. Very good value for the price.

Oh, my gosh, I love this museum so much. It is small – you walk through the house and the main courtyard into one main gallery with a chapel and a little more art below. But I really enjoyed taking my time here. The shaded courtyard is nice to sit in too if you want to get off your feet for a bit.

Museo del Greco is a museum than concentrates on the art of Doménikos Theotokópoulos and his followers. While I expected to see many of his paintings at the museum, I did not expect so many of his masterpieces here. As if that wasn't enough, there's lots of information including videos documentaries about his techniques and how he managed to achieve such beautifully smooth contours on his subjects.
His most famous painting, "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" is in Iglesia Santo Tomé. So see that first, then come back to this museum to see the rest of the El Greco masterpieces along and the information to get the whole context of this paintings. This museum is unmissable when in Toledo. At only €3 for the entrance, it's a steal,

This museum starts out real slow, and by the reviews it’s apparent some people give up and leave without seeing the collection of El Greco originals near the end.
At the beginning you tour some caverns that are still being excavated that have no reason to be a part of the museum other than being on the property that someone mistakenly thought might’ve been the location of El Greco’s house. Then you go into a house that is just a representation of what someone thought El Greco’s house might have looked like. Then you go through several rooms of art that is not all that interesting until, assuming you didn’t head for the exit early, you arrive at El Greco’s painting of St. Bernardino.
The next room contains an incredible collection of El Greco’s portraits of the Apostles. Save some energy and time for this room, as you’ll want to watch the video explaining his techniques, and study the way in which the master depicted each Apostle.
The museum has very good descriptions of each piece of art in both Spanish and English.

There is confusion on Tripadvisor about two different locations- Museo del Greco is "El Greco's (sort of) House" while the Convent of Santo Domingo is where El Greco is supposedly burried and it has some of his early Toledo artwork. Do your research carefully. I wanted to see the convent, but never got there because I was poorly informed about what I wanted to see versus where it all is, regardless of all the books I bought and research I conducted.
I am reviewing Museo Del Greco- which is known as "El Greco's House". One of my guidebooks referred to this site as a "con". I don't think the museum is trying to "con" anyone. They have a plaque on the wall which states "Marquis De la Vega Inclan purchased the property in the early 20th century in the mistaken assumption that he was buying the remains of the painter's own home." There are plaques with English descriptions throughout the museum. The property does encompass areas where El Greco's home probably stood.
So, basically, it's a recreation of how certain rooms in El Greco's home would have looked, which is built on areas where part of his house probably stood. The museum has depictions of how Toledo looked back in El Greco's day. It also houses a lot of El Greco artwork (as well as some done by students). I enjoyed the layout of the Apostolate artwork. I do recommend visiting this site. My husband and I enjoyed it. Photography is allowed in most areas, which is nice.
