Twice their ATM's in CDMX failed to dispense cash, BUT debited my account. The transaction looked like it was going to be successful, then abruptly went to a different screen & said it wasn't possible. This same issue with Banco Santander has been posted on TripAdvisor before...as much as 7 years ago.

It is sad, but most people in the world hear the word Santander for the first time not in connection with the name of this coastal city, but with the name of the Bank. Santander grew from a Bank that financed Spain's trade with Latin America in the 19th century to the 5th Bank in Europe after HSBC, BNP, Crédit Agricole and Deutsche Bank. Although Spanish assets account for only a quarter of the total volume, the Bank maintains its headquarters in its city. The office building was rebuilt from a former hotel in the 20s of the XX century. The architect Javier Gonzales de Riancho preserved the through passage from the next street through the arch during the reconstruction. The main facade faces the sea, which is a reminder of the origin of the first assets. The sculptures on fries by Blanes are allegories of art, culture, Commerce, shipping, banking, industry, and mining. If the Bank put up allegories of the industries in which it makes money now, the facade would not be enough. Although it would be possible to put two - mergers and acquisitions.

In the middle of the town, facing the ocean, this impressive building is a point of reference! Huge arch is dominating the entire structure :)

From this beautiful building the Botin family created the empire of the Banco Santander which absorbed many other international banks after expanding in Spain and grew into a worldwide organization.
Very nice building and is the iconic site of downtown Santander.
Only viewed from the outside. If you are on foot nice to walk around.

I passed by Santander on my way from Bilbao to Santiago and stayed one night here. While there are not many interesting sights inside the city of Santander, this building might be the most famous one in town - simply that it is the (original) headquarter of the largest bank in Spain and named after the city itself. However, I don't think you can get into the building for a tour. Though only taking pictures from outside, it is still a quite photogenic building.

You can't miss this huge Santander Bank HQ which dominates this end of the promenade. It is a very grand building with a huge archway you can walk/drive through.
