- AndieD_Riga_Latvia13 contributionsVulcano Teide1h was not enough for me to walk around the top station of cable car. I had to hurry up. Strongly recommend to visit volcano el Teide, but by self-planning. There is going public titsa bus 1x per day to and back Nr.342. Ticket to cable car can be bought just in internet. To reach the top of volcano, you have to receive cost free permission. Apply for it in the official home page of Teide National park at least a couple of months before arrival on Tenerife while permissions are booked out very fast.Visited December 2022Written 23 December 2022
- JaspC1Edinburgh, United Kingdom17 contributionsFantastic, superb, and amazing! The views from the summit are spectacular, in fact all views from the road to drive up, the cable car ride and walk to the summit are equally superb! Around -4 deg C at the top so if going out of summer, dress appropriately....the walk is fairly easy if you are fit and have good balance! Take it slow to acclimatise to the altitude. The trail is well made but takes a little careful navigating at some spots! A couple of welcomed steam outlets lets you heat your hands! Honestly..one of the best tours to do whilst visiting, you won't be disappointed. Our tour guide Miriam was absolutely fantastic, loads of interesting facts and stories...she was #1! Loved loved loved it!Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 January 2023
- Ramon M5 contributionsday at volcanoHired car for drive to volcano, easy drive up mountain on tarmacadam roads (no potholes) Always busy but parking easy You have to book the cable car to the top ONLINE ONLY and are allocated a time slot. allow a good hour at the top unless you want to see in the crater you need to purchase a pass and trek to the top. weather can change so be prepared.Visited January 2023Written 19 January 2023
- BibiF23 contributionsLiterally feeling on top of the worldThe landscape is breathtaking and if you go up before sundown you can watch the rocks change into vibrant oranges and yellow. There are so many rock formations / sands etc that each part has a different and unique quality. The air is crisp and clean and a joy to breathe. You can take the cable car to the top of Mt Teide and can book tickets online to avoid queueing. On of my favourites I’d you are lucky enough to be here for the meteorite shower and if there isn’t a full moon is to go the Villa Flor for an early dinner and get up around 20.00pm. Bring very warm clothing and perhaps take sunbed covers to lie on and watch the show. The stars are so Lear and big you feel as though you could pick them out of the sky - a great experience for adults and children alike ….. I could go on and on and as you may guess I just love going thereVisited August 2022Travelled with familyWritten 23 January 2023
- LincolnshireSashaLiverpool, United Kingdom89 contributionsWOW - WHAT SIGHTSHave been to Tenerife several times but never got to see Teide. We stayed in Los Cristianos, not far from Bus Staion, so asked about buses to it as don't like 'organised trips'. One bus a day at 9.30am & returning at 4pm, cost 12 euros each on a card. Took 1.5hrs going up/down but amazing views. Visitor Centre very interesting & also a large Cafe/shop next to it with great value food/drink. Can get bus hourly up there to Botanical Gardens, furthest point of area. Lots of great walks all around there, but wrap up. Did not go to summit, far too expensive for very little more. Bus leaves from Visitor Centre 4pm, do not miss it as only one. Wel worth the money for amazing changing scenery. Apparently 1st Star Wars filmed there, can see why.Visited January 2023Written 2 February 2023
- rcjaffe13 contributionsGreat drive but be aware of parking problems at cable car.A beautiful drive from the north end of Tenerife. A number of easily accessed pull offs. The problem is finding parking at the cable car. I arrived during the middle of the day and there was absolutely no spots to park. Would probably been different early or late so be aware.Visited January 2023Written 4 February 2023
- Gem BGateshead, United Kingdom36 contributionsDefinitely worth a visit3715metres above sea level. A trip in a cable car to the (almost) top of this volcano is an experience. The views are amazing as you can imagine. The cable car trip is fun. Make sure you wear a coat and sensible shoes though because its chilly at the top.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 February 2023
- dave hDerbyshire, United Kingdom80 contributionsUnable to see itWe went to El Teide 8 years ago and remember that it was outstanding. However, we've just returned from a two week holiday in Tenerife and everyday the mountain was closed. Even though the sky was blue and there was no wind. It wasn't even that cold. They told us that it was unsafe. You also have to book on line now. If you are able to see it we highly recommend it, but just be aware that you may not be able to due to the health and safety nannies.Visited February 2023Written 1 March 2023
- thegees1Reading, United Kingdom189 contributionsBeautiful and stunning scenery.Excellent road to El Teide with lots of stopping off places on route to the cable car. Like others have said the cable car needs to be booked online but there is mobile reception near the lift and we could have obtained tickets but were flying back and didn't have the time so we didn't go right up to the top. The route is very scenic though. Definitely recommended if you hire a car. Make sure you choose a day that's not cloudy.Visited February 2023Written 9 March 2023
- Kajetan D3 contributionsIt’s a volcano - what can be cooler than this?First of all it’s a volcano - it has to be great! You need a permit ( free, bookings available on website). It’s accessible by cable car or ( my recommendation ) there are two stunning walking trails. Best option is Montana Blanca/Altavista path, starting during the night so you can avoid heat and watch breathtaking sunrise on the way. It’s 5,5 hours and you’ll need some level of fitness but it’s worth it. Path from cable car to the volcano is steep, person checking permits is very rude and volcano stinks terribly. But the views are so good! I would give 5 stars but the permit checker was absent at the gate when we were hiking up the volcano and on our way back started shouting on us and accusing us of getting there outside of permit time brackets. Nonsense but he gets on my nerves.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2023

It was an amazing experience. It's a must see if you are in Tenerife. The road to the volcano is breathtaking. The view is amazing from the top. We used the cable car to go up and down, we purchased the tickets online. Bring warm clothes with you as it's only about 10C in the mountain. The last cable car descends at 16:50.
You need a special permit to go to the very top of the volcano. We couldn't get one even when trying a month before our arrival.

We have wanted to go up Tiede for a while now, but thought our son might be too young to appreciate it. During our last trip to Tenerife, in August, the volcano was not accessible due to the forest fires. Anyway, this time, in October, the conditions were perfect.
We booked our trip through 'TENERIFE FIRST EXCURSIONS' for a total of €200.00 for 2 adults and 1 child. The coach was on time, and the guide spoke good English. The coach makes a number of stops on the way up, for refreshments and photo opertunities.
Included in the price of the trip is the cable car to the top of the volcano. (refundable if close due to weather conditions) once at the top, you get an hour to walk around and toke in the breathtaking views.
The return coach journey has a couple more stops, and then drops you at your pick up point.
We had a great day out, worth every penny!
We are back next August with friends, and have already recommended that we do the same trip.

This was an incredible trip. We bought gondela tickets only and explored the trails. The gondelas were clean with a great view. The cafeteria was clean and Not overpriced. Gift shop was reasonable too. Bathrooms spotless and every worker we met was friendly and helpful. The view from the top is pretty amazing and the hiking trails are well marked. I will go again in the future to see other trails.

The volcanic formations are incredible and the drive there is very enjoyable, it was great to see some of the island, but this is an expensive trip if you don't have a car and do an excursion. The cable car costs 40 euros pp in addition to the trip cost. You have to buy your ticket online or through your trip organiser. You can't buy a ticket at the cable car.
We didn't do the cable car on health ground but the people on the coach who didn't do the cable car ride were left at Roques de Garcia for two hours! We hadn't been advised of this when we booked the trip. Quiz your operator on all that happens on any trip you are thinking of booking to make sure you don't get any unexpected surprises.
There is a cafe, toilets . footpaths and a tourist information hut here. But even after speaking to the man there we weren't sure about the difficulty or duration of what seemed the best path for us so we didn't follow it for very far.
I had hoped to get a panoramic view of the island from the volcano but didn't get it from where we had to spend most of our visit and was very disappointed in the trip because of this.

The Teide National park is a must see when travelling to Tenerife, the landscape are quite beautiful and the Pico del Teide is very easy to access.

Breathtaking ! Should visit ! The driving is not so easy as full of turns and very narrow but it’s worth going !! Total different environment from the rest of the island wild and rocky

We drove up the volcano to see the stars at night and it was out of this world!!! An absolute must!
Avoid all the tourist excursion and go yourself.
We also drove up both sides of the volcano in the day. Way above the clouds. The views are astounding!!!
We went in a cafe near the gift shop. Food was discussing!! Ordered 4 burgers got 3. 2 had to go back because they were raw inside. Then one had to go back again because it was raw and they forgot the salad. When they eventually got it right it was discussing. Prices were huge!!! Do not eat up the volcano!
Take your own food, drinks, sun cream, hats and clothing fir all weather's!

A star gazers paradise. The sun set is fabulous and although your out a few hours most trips stop in a village on the way up for an evening meal first. We got back to our hotel at 1am. Worth it though.

We went up with the cable car to the top station, located at 3555m. Not to the peak, because you can only do it based on an appointment made months in advance. But I wouldn't say I regret it. Although it was clear at the upper station, the clouds located a little lower (around 1800-2000m) prevented you from seeing something truly spectacular. We walked the path to the Pico Viejo viewpoint but we wasn't too impressed. Only barren volcanic rock. I read reviews where people said that they suffered from dizziness due to the altitude, but it wasn't the case for me (neither for my 14-year-old daughter). We went up at 2 p.m., on July 1st, and we could only stay in t-shirts, it wasn't too cold. Sports shoes are sufficient in good weather.
The cable car is a bit expensive, 40 euros for the round trip. The ticket allows you to stay in the upper area for just one hour.

Hi all - I’m looking for a ticket to the Teide for 11/24 and the best case scenario would be one that includes parking, cable car ride up and down and permit to climb to the peak. Any recommendations or any advice for those who has visited the Teide before?

You can buy tickets at arrival for the cable car.
However we tried to get a permit for the park too but it was not possible at that time. The national park gives the permission so you have to apply for it in advance on their website.

Hola. No es difícil, pero hay que tener en cuenta la altura. Te puedes sentir con falta de aire. Hay que ir despacio.

What is the time you have on top with a return cable car ticket? Is it enough to visit the summit and the two viewports to the right and left?
Or should you just buy separate up & down tickets to maximize the time on top?

There is plenty of time, they give you a timelimit but I didn't bother checking it and they never made an issue out of it.

Hello, Are there any excursions where you can hike up Mount Teide (without using cable car) via Montana Blanco route and then hike up the crater and then be able to use the cable car to come down? Am doing it by myself (Wife and kids will probably do the cable car both ways) so need a group/guide.

Easy but it's a very hard climb to the top, if you feel up to it, count about 5 hours to get to the upper cable car station and another hour to get to the summit, down is faster.

Buenas, voy a visitar el Teide la primera semana de septiembre y me gustaría saber si por esa época hace falta llevar un abrigo gordo para subir al pico o con una sudadera podría bastar. Gracias!
