We visited Playa Santiago while staying at San Sebastián in La Gomera. The journey by car took about 40 minutes. Roads are good with space for 2 cars to pass but the route is up and down the mountain side and twists and turns with several hairpin bends. Playa Santiago is a lovely fishing village/town with several restaurants along the... More

We were staying at the Hotel Jardin Tecina, on the headland above Playa de Santiago and walked there most days for coffee and cake or a light lunch. Loads of good cafes and a really wonderful bakery. There is also a fantastic Art Gallery and very good value rentals for scooters and cars. Everyone is very friendly and we noticed... More

Playa de Santiago is a quiet ex fishing village with a few restaurants and shops. The beach is black sand and there is little to commend it. However one or two of the few restaurants in the village are quite good and offer value for money and there is a very nice patisserie a short walk from the beach. If... More

If you are planning a trip by car or bus in La Gomera then Playa de Santiago is probably worth a stop over for lunch. It is quite sleepy and not particularly quaint, overlooked by a tiny airport, with a concrete harbour but a large gravel car park is available. There is a pleasant walk along the seafront from the... We have been here on our own or with family about ten times and it is a hidden gem. We have recommended to friends and they have visited too. A v slow pace of life, almost always sunny and things don't change much, apart from wifi coverage being better now. We always tend to visit to chill after Christmas and... More

Playa de Santiago is a small relaxed big village/small town. It has lots of restaurants and cafes as well as three small supermarkets that supply all of the essentials. Sa Sebastian is a 45 minute bus ride away. The buses leave about every three hours. The pace of life is leisurely, and you are never far from a walking trail.

The beach is located 2 steps from the village and a few more from the marina, where our sailing boat was laying. We enjoyed a bath at the beach where the entry is gently dipping, ideal if you have small children. The water was above 20 degrees celcius and therefore very nice for taking a bath and a tan. Absolutely... More

We were staying quite close to the village and our access was via a steep pathway to the west of the village. Return journey was often by taxi as temperatures were sometimes up around 35 deg C. The beach is swimmable, but very pebbly, with black sand lower down. You never look desirable emerging fro the water, although it is... More
